The Central Epidemic Command Center announced today (21) that there were 19,155 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Taiwan, including 19,051 local cases and 104 imported cases; 27 new deaths were added among the confirmed cases.
According to the command center, 19,051 new local cases were added today, 8,681 males, 10,355 females, and 15 cases under investigation, with ages ranging from less than 5 years old to over 90 years old. The distribution of cases is New Taipei City (3,807 cases), Taichung City (2,362 cases), Taoyuan City (2,261 cases), Taipei City (2,173 cases), Kaohsiung City (1,991 cases), Tainan City (1,350 cases), Changhua County (930 cases), Hsinchu County (748 cases), Hsinchu City (552 cases), Pingtung County (429 cases), Miaoli County (426 cases), Yunlin County (349 cases), Chiayi County (279 cases), Yilan County (267 cases), Keelung City (243 cases), Nantou County (240 cases), Chiayi City (187 cases), Hualien County (184 cases), Taitung County (121 cases), Kinmen County (90 cases), Penghu County (62 cases).
The command center pointed out that there were 27 deaths today, including 10 males and 17 females, aged from their 40s to 90s. All had severe infections, 25 had a history of chronic diseases, 19 hadn’t received the recommended 3 or more doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and 15 hadn’t received any doses at all. The date of diagnosis was from August 28 to December 18 today (2022), and the date of death was from August 28 to December 18, as detailed in the attachment of the press release.
According to the command center, among the 104 new imported cases today, 55 were males and 49 were females, ranging in age from less than 5 years old to more than 80 years old, from China (7 cases), Japan (3 cases), and Turkey , the United States, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam and South Korea (1 case each), and another 86 cases of infection are under investigation. The entry date is from November 21 to December 20 this year.
According to the statistics of the command center, as of now, there have been 20,508,858 notifications related to the new type of coronavirus pneumonia in Taiwan (including 11,883,241 cases excluded), of which 8,624,680 cases have been confirmed, including 39,049 imported cases, 8,585,577 local cases, 36 from the Dunmu Fleet, 3 cases of aircraft infection, 1 case is unknown and 14 cases are under investigation. Since 2020, there have been a total of 14,958 COVID-19 deaths, of which 14,941 were local cases. The command center once again appealed that the public should complete vaccination as soon as possible, implement personal protective measures such as hand hygiene and cough etiquette, reduce unnecessary movement, activities or gatherings, and avoid entering and leaving crowded places or places with high risk of infection transmission. Actively cooperate with various epidemic prevention measures, and remind people with sensitive constitutions, chronic diseases, fever, or respiratory symptoms that it is still recommended to wear masks in densely populated areas to jointly maintain the health of domestic communities.
