Coronavirus Vaccine Discussion

was looking but may have missed it.

where is Taiwan getting the vaccines from? and in what quantities?

Some details are emerging about the expected timeline of vaccinations across the Strait in Hong Kong.

Executive summary: don’t expect a quick fix.

Professor David Hui Shu-cheong, a respiratory medicine expert at Chinese University and government adviser on the pandemic, gave an approximate timeline for when [Hong Kong] could expect to receive vaccine supplies.

“If we are lucky, by the third quarter of next year [i.e. 2021 Q3] we will start seeing the first batches of vaccines arrive, and I believe by around 2022, the chance for all Hongkongers to be vaccinated should be quite high,” he said.

Hui urged residents to be patient as the government was already in the process of procuring doses through the Covax Facility, a distribution scheme co-led by the World Health Organization. Officials were also dealing directly with manufacturers to obtain shots, he said. Hui estimated in September that the first batches would be available by April at the earliest.

Ohhhh, if only.

The politicians will keep this going for as long as they possibly can. God only knows what they’re playing at, but they’re having the time of their lives.

Anyone remember this?

If it was another industry, would it be allowed to survive?

Yes, sorry. Volkswagen emissions scandal - Wikipedia

But Pfizer is definitely top of my least trusted companies, so I agree with the point you are making.

That aside, although I’m in the UK and allegedly we have vaccines here, I won’t be getting one at all as the UK has said nobody under a certain age will be getting them at all. The priority scale looks fair enough though.

Just hoping France or Ireland next door doesn’t mandate them for entry. Brexit no-deal at the end of the month to distract everyone from this disaster anyway.

People tell me I should be more positive :cowboy_hat_face:

However, the Chinese Embassy in Uganda on Dec. 5 announced that an Indian company in Uganda reported 47 Chinese citizens working for the firm had tested positive for COVID-19. It stated the majority of the cases were asymptomatic, but “a minority” experienced symptoms of the virus, including fever, cough, fatigue, and diarrhea.

I realize it’s a K-man article and intended to be anti-China, but I don’t see anything newsworthy there. Even great vaccines properly administered aren’t 100% effective. Who knows how many people they vaccinated for 47 in Uganda to get mildly sick? There isn’t any meaningful data here.

Stumbled across a massive vaccine article dump:

My brother had the first shot of the Pfizer vaccine yesterday. I’ll report back if he dies, or grows an extra head or something.

And:
Two NHS workers suffer allergic reaction to Pfizer vaccine
UK regulators have issued a warning that people who have a history of “significant” allergic reactions should not currently receive the Pfizer/BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine after two NHS staff members who had the jab suffered allergic reactions.

The workers were given the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine on Tuesday - the first day of the NHS mass vaccination programme - and then suffered an allergic reaction.

The NHS in England said all trusts involved with the vaccination programme had been informed.

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has given precautionary advice to NHS trusts that anyone who has a history of “significant” allergic reactions to medicines, food or vaccines should not receive the vaccine.
They developed symptoms of “anaphylactoid reaction” shortly after receiving the vaccine and both have recovered after the appropriate treatment.

And:

To be fair, allergic reactions are quite common with any kind of vaccine. You can’t eliminate it entirely. Conversely, that still means that one has to balance risks and benefits, as with any medical intervention. Setting the ideal target as “everyone gets vaccinated” is not sensible.

We don’t vaccinate everyone against Influenza every year, we advise high risk people to get the jab. If they choose not to they choose to increase their risk. Which is fine.

What’s happening with Covid is madness.

Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori, one way or another.

Seriously, I’m sure the vaccine isn’t going to kill anybody. Well, not enough that you’d notice, anyway. I’m just wondering what the aliens observing our species are making of all this.
