Excess deaths in NZ:
The latest available figures of excess deaths in New Zealand show what is happening. The OECD reports for September 2023 and the first week of October, records there were 577 excess deaths up 17% on the long term average. That is a rate of 155 additional deaths per week above what you might expect for the time of year. Last year (2022) for the corresponding period there were 339 excess deaths, 68 per week, up 10% on the long term average. Even this figure was a record. 2023 is 70% higher than that.

That doesnât surprise me. I remember writing somewhere - I think there was a âpandemic mental heathâ thread - that the key to getting through the The Pandemic⢠with your sanity at least partially intact would be to face the abuse and lies that you are being subjected to with honesty, and find a way to deal with reality as it presents itself ⌠as opposed to, for example, accepting the false reality that you are being ordered to believe in.
They were neurotic people to start with, though. Iâm not sure how the researchers could factor that in.
Some of them probably were, but definitely not all. The industrial-strength brainwashing that people were subjected to was well-crafted and relentless. Plenty of sane and stable people gave in to it. It would be interesting to see some research done on who was susceptible and who was not.
In any case, I agree that people who were barely holding it together - there are, at any given moment, quite a lot of people just barely clinging on to the cliff-face of sanity - would have had their minds ruined by the brainwashing. That was a crime that will cost society dearly.
It was the collective abandonment of logic that saddened me. Itâs perhaps made me more of a realist.
Logic was abandoned a very long time ago. Itâs just a more obvious now. 
Weâll probably have to agree to disagree over this, but I donât believe thatâs the case at all. Most of what governments do is âlogicalâ in the context of their (mostly unspoken) goals. Occasionally they say the quiet parts out loud and we get a glimpse into how their âlogicâ works. Sometimes the people in charge are just so vile that their goals are transparent from the get-go; once upon a time this was the case only for so-called âfailed Statesâ (which havenât failed at all - they are/were wildly successful at what theyâre structured to achieve, generally the mass pillaging of natural resources). The difference today is that âthe Westâ seems to be following the same path in some sort of bizarre episode of self-destruction, greed, and nihilism.
If you start from the assumption that governments and powerful actors are selfless individuals just trying to do their best for the rest of us, it all looks âillogicalâ. The parsimonious explanation for their behaviour is that their goals have nothing to do with what is best for us, and a lot to do with what is best for them.
