He mentioned someone texted him and they have been chatting. That is how these scams start by text. They use a random name like “Is this John from the conference last night?” And then you text back I’m not John sorry you have the wrong number. “Oh my mistake but you seem very kind. Nice to meet you.” And then text you a picture of a pretty Asian girl.
When I mess with them I don’t talk on the phone it’s all text.
He is definitely being had. I’d bet if the “girl” texted in Chinese it’d be in simplified Chinese.
Guaranteed this is a scam. Scam scam scam. I hope you’re practicing your “oink oink” noises.
This exact scenario is so common… pretty girl “accidentally” texts you but she meant to text Steve who she met at the conference/dinner/party last night and then after you said it’s the wrong number they continue to chat you up etc and try to start a relationship. Pfff, Steve.
I’ve gotten these texts several times before. When they ask for my photos I send politically inappropriate memes about China and they promptly disappear.
its a very common pig butchering scam. I get such too. Somehow they get my phone number and then i get a text saying like how she found me in her contacts and dont know who i am and if i reply she will keep conversation going. i am at that stage where i can see the picture to know that a supernmodel looking girl would never randomly text me but i know many guys who wouldt belive it
Tell her up front you have not saved any money and are considering going back to school to get a PhD in Taylor Swift economics in the U.S., which is an emerging academic area of study and see how she reacts.
I had a young lady from Taiwan,
Who danced in the rain with a swan.
With grace and with flair,
She danced everywhere,
Till dawn broke and the stars were all gone.
I had a young lady from Taiwan,
Whose texts leave me feeling undone.
She’s junior by twenty-four,
I summoned a committee for,
“should I run or is she the one?”
Tried my own hand at a limerick. Don’t know anything about meters, but it’s the best I could do.
This kind of scam is called catfishing. What are the odds that a younger, attractive, and available woman just happens to “accidentally” text just you and then keeps the conversation going after realizing it’s a wrong number? When has any of those individual points happened to you for real? Now consider the likelihood that they all occurred simultaneously. You can’t trust him (let’s not pretend it’s a woman anymore) because you have no failsafe way to verify him. He can chat believably, generate or steal photos online and even video, and can fake video in real time. Please don’t send any personal details or money. Also, read up on catfishing and other scams because they are getting very sophisticated and you have likely been identified as someone who will be caught by these kind of scams.
A woman who worked with my wife matched with a handsome mixed race guy on Tinder who she fell in love with and ended up giving him over 1 million TWD despite colleagues telling her it was a scam. When she eventually showed her colleagues her online bf’s dating profile, all the pics were of a young Keanu Reeves.
