I 'm having major issues with DHL and their delivery times. I need my academic transcripts for a Visa application urgently. The delay of which is quite literally messing up my life. A contact of mine dispatched the transcripts from South Africa 1.5 months ago, they still haven’t arrived. I was told it would take 8 days. I have sent a package via DHL from SA to Thailand which took 3 months before!
Is there any way I can send things which doesn’t take an eternity? Perhaps UPS or another company. When I send from Taiwan, the packages arrive in SA on time which leads me to believe the issue is on the Asian side.
I’ll be needing my criminal clearance sent from SA in order to get a visa for Australia and the prospect of my plans being screwed because of incompetence is right royally grating my carrot.
why don’t you send such important documents via express and tracking id? You do have one anyways, go to check on dhl.com where your parcel is, maybe it was waiting somewhere for you?
I did send it express. I don’t have the tracking number because the person who sent it didn’t give it to me. I keep on requesting the number but it’s in ‘his office’ and he’s perpetually in another area. I will hopefully acquire the tracking number shortly, but still…
Good Lord, man, that doesn’t sound right. I mean, EMS, which is supposedly teh slower of the express services here, has delivery times of less than a week all over the world. DHL is allegedly faster. 3 months?! Over one month?! With what they charge, I’ve never heard of that. I’ve had things delivered in 4 days by DHL, Fedex and UPS from Central America to taiwan and viceversa.
Definetively, use the tracking number and make a big fuss at DHL offices -close to Jienguo Expressway and Nanking, if I am not mistaken. Sometimes, we gotta play the Ugly Waiguoren sterotype. Raise a bit stinky.
Sounds more like your friend hasn’t sent it to me. 1.5 months for DHL to deliver from south africa via express delivery… um sorry I used to get DSTV Supersports cards shipped by DHL from S.A. and it only took maybe 5 days to arrive.
Raise a stinky with what? They will ask for the tracking number which he doesn’t have. His friend could have easily scanned the DHL awb and emailed it to his friend here in Taiwan.
Ehem, that is why I said that in the event he had the tracking number, then he could raise a fuss. But now I’m favoring the theory of it hasn’t been sent at all, seeing friend is so evasive about package number. Even my mother knows to give me the package number, and that’s for taiwan, where post parcels are mostly safe -unless there is a typhoon.
Solved the problem. Meeting a buddy of mine in Thailand shortly and he will bring the criminal clearance and transcripts. Yeah, I am leaning toward it not being sent, although that would be a major dick move to not even confess and I must give him the benefit of the doubt.
Well if he can bring them ( the transcripts ) it must mean he hasn’t sent them. Maybe you should change the thread title to My Friend is useless not DHL is useless.

One would have to be a right blockhead to not obtain a tracking ID #, which would surely seem to be utter common sense.
And DHL, who would get a 6.8 rating in my experience, are not completely useless. That honour goes to UPS, who are swinish cretins.
A bit harsh there buddy. That was my one and only contact. Anyway, I have recently been assured it was sent although the tracking number is still elusive as the dude is in another city. The jury is still out on DHL in this instance, although I have had issues with them before. Just google for other horror stories about them, they do not seem like isolated incidents.
Well I used to get regular DHL airfriehgt from S.A. to Taiwan never missed a shipment or had undue delays.
I was always sent the AWB by email with the full tracking number as a reference.
But do please explain, if your sole contact has sent your transcripts how is it a buddy can bring them to Thailand?
Google any major freight company and you will come up with a whole host of horror stories. They all make mistakes, but consumers are good a exaggerating their complaints.
FedEx and DHL are both pretty good in my opinion. UPS are good too, but their trucks look silly and their uniforms make the drivers look like Brownie Girl Scouts, so they lose marks on that.

I’ve heard some tall tales in the logistics field, but not having a tracking number is just not on. I suppose the fellow left the sheets with the tracing # in another apartment too far removed?
If one sends something for someone, especially something important like transcripts, it is exceedingly good form to let them know the tracing/tracking #. Anything else just wouldn’t be cricket.

All I’s saying is that it would appear that you were done over, and at the very least need some kind of explanation.
I do hope the situation resolves in short order, and one might get a tracking number the next time around.

DHL Express standard from SA > Taiwan is 3 days (send Monday, arrive Wednesday), not 8 days. Also DHL Taiwan are very proactive about contacting you by phone or email if there is something wrong with a shipment. Someone is having you on.
