Discussion on prostitution

I’m sure the tea at Tiantianle was excellent.

Isn’t sex worker the preferred nomenclature?

I think that’s PC among supporters of the sex industry. Opponents use prostitute.

Just so we all know. Taiwan has a higher number of sex workers per head of population than Thailand.

That can’t be true.

Is that only Taiwanese sex workers, or does it include foreign sex workers operating in Taiwan?

It’s designed to see those people as workers rather than as criminals.

I feel like it could be. The Thai sex industry is famous because it caters to tourists, but it’s a huge country, and I don’t know if the locals are into it much. Taiwan’s is very local and a big part of the culture, at least for the older generation.

I have no stats, but I could believe it.

Most clients are locals.

In Thailand?

Yes.

Huh. I guess I’ve been going to the wrong places then!

My first eye opener in Taiwan was in Lukang, where they had sex workers at a funeral.

They are  The tourist part is visible to tourists, but not the whole picture at all.

I can imagine it being true, possibly, but I still feel like it can’t be.

So does this mean that the Combat Zone isn’t an officially recognised red light district? All this time I thought it was…

I guess though with certain groups like Muslims it will be a lot less prevalent. OK, I’m warming up to it. It’s a big country, true.

No, it never was. In Taipei I believe the area around the Huaxi Street Night Market was, and also Guisui Street.

I think the roads in the Combat Zone are too wide for it to have been legal there. Wasn’t it something like three meters maximum?

Sounds like a blue-collar hoe. A high-class call girl would never want to be called a “worker.”

Clearly you have more experience in this sector than I do.
