Do you think America will come to Taiwan’s aid if China attacks? Should it?

I don’t think Trump’s thugs are going to let that happen

I can believe he said that in a fundraiser, but I wonder if he seriously said that to Vlad or Xi…

This issue has been so much bigger than trumps thugs for so long…it’s weird to think he even understands the history. Nevermind the future implications, which is actually the important issue

Much like I don’t expect the snail to understand the type of fertilizer used to grow the cabbage. Clearly ignorant, they just go around with their hard ass shell being snails.

If the snail controlled the cabbage production, it’s time for the snail to talk to the customers, even the pesticide companies contractwd to kill them, rather than keep getting completely fucked by the middlemen from foreign lands controlling the domestic farmers thay ate eating cabbage and paying zero attention to sustaining the environment it grows in and supporting friends willing to do all that dirty work they aren’t willing to.

That example is gonna take some digesting. Even so, it’s literally that retarded. That’s why trump isn’t smart enough to hold that position of leading the scariest country on earth.

Nice analogy

Snails are slimy, Trump is slimy, good one.

Post of the month imo. Thanks for typing my guy.

Favorite part here I believe.

Would have been good in this thread

Also, @marasan, I stopped it after 2 minutes again :joy:

Fairly major exceptions, yes?

I didn’t make it past the introduction, I stopped after about 3 minutes at Cowmingtang

It was interesting to hear the Dutch took over much of the island and brought in Chinese settlers to police the local population. I wonder why I have never heard this before. Maybe because these are not well established facts?

Anyways, I can read faster than they can ramble dubiously and mispronounce, and have other things to do today. Someone might enjoy this.

Well, it was mentioned a couple of times here on this forum.

Through out 38 years of Dutch control of Tainan, Tamsui, and Keelung, it was estimated that the Chinese laborers introduced by the Dutch at anyone time was no more than 50 thousand. Coyett recalled that there was just 25 thousand Chinese laborers when he was the last VOC governor of Taiwan. These were strictly laborers, and the Dutch did not consider them subjects, and did not include them in their census for the local population, which the VOC recorded having 300 thousand plains indigenous people under VOC control, and the VOC controlled less than 1/3 of the entire island. So very few Chinese laborers were introduced to Taiwan by the Dutch in comparison to the local Austronesian population. The Dutch and the Spanish already introduced Chinese laborers to the Dutch East Indies and the Philippines prior to replicating this in Taiwan. The Chinese government does like to cite this early introduction of laborers as if those laborers then all stayed and overtook the population. When in fact it took more than 400 years for Han culture to become dominant in Taiwan, most of which took place after 200 years of Qing rule.

50,000 back then in a 38 year period, is a large influx of people.

For comparison the british transported 80,000 convicts to New South Wales between 1788 and 1842 which was a 54 year period… and a larger landmass.

Yes, and that’s how they wiped out the local deer population, since most of them were there for the Dutch fur trade with Japan. However, there were more Indigenous Formosans (300k just under VOC control alone) than there were Indigenous peoples living in New South Wales (100k) prior to the British began sending convicts there. So the ratio of Chinese laborers to Formosans was pretty small under Dutch rule. They were also forced off the island regularly, both by the Dutch, and later by the Qing.

I haven’t read every post since the forum began

How dare you

I don’t think the british cared how many indigenous there were before arriving…

Batman cared. Batman negotiated an agreement with the elders to trade goods for the use of their land.

sorry, but this guy and Serpenza make the most fake stupid news

That was re Port Phillip Bay… later to be Victoria. Did he really care or was he just doing a deal??

I think the British cared about justifying using and obtaining the land, but cared less about what happens to the indigenous peoples once they took over the land. It’s still bad, but at least some sort of acknowledgement and formality in the beginning is better than nothing.

Also, he’s Batman.
