Doner Kebab - Taipei's 1st & only Turkish Grill!

Just saw their advert in today’s paper has anybody been there ?

Doesn’t sound Turkish to me

" New Year set menu "

Smoked Salmon !
Greek Salad !!! That will impress the Turks
Pumpkin Soup ? served with bread (probably milk)
Rock !!! Of Lamb - must be cooked well

What are they on ? Have they been to Turkey?

Kebabs , kofte , lentil soup , Pita bread , mezze now that Turkish

Is there a trading standards office over here I can call to get the name changed to " No F*cking Idea Restauarant" :loco:

Can you give us a link to this ad?

Which newspaper did it appear in?

And what is the name of the restaurant?

Thanks.

It’s called Doner Kebab - original

It’s apparently behind the Sherwood hotel

It’s advertised in todays China Post

I still cannot get over them advertising Greek Salad & Norwegian Salmon

Let me know if anyone goes there - A few beers and a doner kebab would be great

I know someone who’s had their doner and says it’s quite good.

We’ve gotten takeaway twice and will be back again - yummy. Authentic depends on who you are I guess, but it tastes good to me and makes a change from the usual. We’ve had the chicken and beef kebabs - both nice. Get the Turkish soda bread in preference to the Lebanese bread (even they said that ) and I liked the kusbasili which was real, bleeding chunks of lamb, but not the ardana kebab so much, which was lamb mince. With the pricier meals you get bread, grilled eggplant, grilled zucchini, grilled tomato, hommous and some parsley/tomato stuff I can’t remember the name of.

I have no financial or other interest in this restaurant, but was moved to try it because the TT reported the owner picked up the ideas and imported all the equipment from Sydney (where I’m from). The French fries (huh? NOT a Sydney thing with kebabs) are terrible, but I loved them, because they were terrible in a very familiar way

I went there yesterday and it was great! I’ve been missing good doners here!

Maybe it was just for Christmas?

Someone I know who is Turkish was supposed to have opened a restaurant in Taipei. Maybe this is it. Is the owner a Turkish guy named Tim Ozcan? I heard he even brought the chef over from Turkey as well. Really nice guy.

Unfortunately, the owner is not Turkish, but some local guy who says he was in Turkey which I take with a grain of salt. He has been open for about a month now. The same type of grilled chicken, or beef sandwiches can be found just up the street a bit but without the large amounts of lettuce and no mayonaise or catsup! He is pretty skimpy on the tahini, (“afraid the bread will get too wet?!” ) :unamused: and I can make better tabouli

But then I understand he is catering to the Taiwan palate. I did not particularly like the food and will not make any effort to go back even though he is just down the street. I may be wrong, but I don’t think he will last long in that highly competitive restaurant area.

Any shish taouk or fallafel?

I ate there today. I thought it was very good.

Have eaten there a few times now. The food is good, may not be 100% authentic but it is pretty damn good for Taiwan.

They do other items on the menu, so I think that is what they were advertising in the paper.

Just wish they did delivery because they are a bit out of the way.

So where exactly is that thing? Anybody has an address?

The address is Minsheng East Road, Section 3, Lane 113, #11,
Tel: 8712-0311

I ate here today and thought the food was great. I had a mixed kebab (chicken/beef), and will definitely be back. I also had chicken wings, but they were nothing special. They had several different set meals. A sandwich and drink will only set you back 130nt. Their thick grilled Turkish bread was also fantastic, and I’d recommend it over the flat bread.

This site is so great! I’m a kebab freak and even though I guess I’ll love the food here I will definitely crave for some kebab soner or later. No way I would have found that place by myself.

BTW. Is there any good internet map service? So I can actually find the place IRL.

There is also one ( Same company by the looks and signage) located inside Warner Village food court (now up on the 1st Floor) I had one the other day, although I must say it was not as good as the original location venue, but I guess they are just setting up.

I ate here on Sunday and found it a nice change to other fast food options available in the neighborhood. We had the greek salad, mixed grill, and falafel sandwich. My only complaint was the sweet mayonaise on the falafel sandwich, which ruined the otherwise nice flavor. I’ll go again, but I’ll ask them to hold the mayo.

Man, this place bit.
I went there once, first of all, they don’t even have lamb donair (donerkebab), WTF is up with that?
I mean, isn’t that what they’re supposed to be?
I know there’s beef and chicklen available, but real ones are always lamb, right?
At least where I come from.
And they wrapped it up in a fuckin tortilla!!
That they heated up until it got all dry and brittle.
Thanks, but I’ll wait for my next trip home, or to Aus.

Which location did you go to?

Agree with Chief on that point, but my experience was at the Warner Village store, the one near Ruth Chris was very good when i went. and they had Lamb!
