Drug use in Taiwan 2021, an issue?

Taiwan’s prisons are packed with drug offenders.
It is a serious issue here but not maybe for wealthy expats.

They might be different. Yabba is weaker meth in pill form mixed with caffeine, so ice might be legit meth. I grew up in the middle of the meth crisis in the states, and we also have a huge heroin problem where I’m from. Meth is way, way worse than any other class A drug. Imagine living in a neighborhood that never sleeps and always needs money for more meth that eventually makes people stay up for so long that they kind of lose their minds. It’s not a fun to watch.

Ice is crystalized methamphetamine.

No I do not agree it is worse than any class A drug. Where you grew up is just a subjective view point.

Taiwan needs to give mandatory death penalty for drug offenses, Taiwan is too free of a country and dont get me wrong, im all about freedom and human rights and such but i think there is such thing as too much freedom, Taiwan is pretty much the freest country on earth, lawless in a lot of ways and the only way this place will become a first world country is with a Singapore style government, laws and justice system.

Singapore is a fully developed country, makes my home country of Aus look like a third world cesspit and what Singo has done in such a short time is mind blowing and a country that everywhere should be compared to and look up to, Japan also aswell as Germany, those are the 3 most developed nations in existance but Singapore despite being a dictatorship in the real world, they have managed to get society right.

Hopefully one day Taiwan will reach there level but sadly i doubt we will ever see “first world” status with the way things currently are, first step is to get rid of the mafia, next is to piss the worthless government off that exists and form a 1 party and 1 party only government and maybe for some laws or new laws put it up to the public to vote on what should be allowed, etc… that can be the new way of voting instead of the current system that is voting for a political party when all they seem to care about doing is throwing pig guts and bricks at each other in parliament.

Just my 2 cents on this.

Edit, should mention im not intentionally running Taiwan down, i just speak up on whats wrong.
If i were to criticize my home country of Aus, id be here all day typing out what is wrong.

Dude yeah it is way worse for the community, but you’re right all class A drugs suck. My hometown currently has a large homeless population that includes a ton of addicts that are hooked on meth, heroin and everything in between and it’s super hard to watch.

Also, yabba is meth, but I don’t think it’s a potent as crystal meth because it’s cut with other stuff and put into pill form if that makes sense.

Sorry, but this is a completely wack take. We do not want Taiwan to become Singapore. One Singapore is more than enough, thank you.

some people might not, but think about it, everything will become the best it can be in a short period of time.

I’d take Taiwan over Singapore any day of the week and twice on Sundays. Singapore is one of the most annoying countries I’ve ever been to.

Living in the countryside seems the cops are kept busy with drug users stealing stuff…like anything they can get their hands on. The small hut near our house was broken into with all the wires and fixtures stolen. We talked with the police who caught them…a couple of young druggies. The cops were like these guys will steal anything just to get NT$1000 or NT$2000 for their next hit.

As for Singapore…you would think the auto death penalty for possession over a certain amount would eliminate drugs. But while living there the government was still catching people. Some who were caught were local just trying to cash in with high prices. Some are using Singapore as the distribution point as other countries are lax on imports from Singapore. I worry that is what will happen in Taiwan. Drugs will also be flowing through here to other places.

yes, i mostly agree with that, but… the issues Taiwan has will very unlikely ever be fixed with the current government, no idea if the KMT will do a better job but if they are elected next election then we will have to see.

I agree with you sometimes, but only those times that I personally see the destruction that hard drugs brings on families that I know. I would not mind seeing those adults that sell hard drugs to children being flogged.

Drugs have been flowing through here to other places since about 1952.
The KMT did control most of the opium trade in the Golden triangle…Anyone forgotten that?

Thats why drugs need to become extinct because stuff like that will happen. Growing up in south-west Sydney stuff like this happened all the time plus armed robberies also. If the death penalty is given to drug offences then maybe people will think twice about doing them.

Having malaysia next door a short walk away doesnt help, but people in Singo actually get caught thats the difference.

Sure… let’s just let CCP be the one and only party of Taiwan, that will go well…

Surprisingly in some ways yes it might, others probably not, CCP is a rogue government afterall, DDP and KMT are useless governments.

Just going to leave this out here. We have a poster advocating a mandatory death penalty for “drug offenses”. That’s not a great look. That’s me and most of my friends dead as some dodos right there.

You are describing a situation that would not look out of place in Communist China.

Disagree,

Taiwan is already a first world country.

Ah yes. The one that beats people. Nothing says set an example just as much as hypocrisy.

This is true.

Except that Oz is not a third world country.

That’s an opinion.

Taiwan is already a first world country as stated above.

Despite the fact that Taiwanese already live pretty well with high standards of living, high education and high life expectancy. Healthcare is great. The power is always on. Public transport is safe, clean and effective and I could go on.

Ah yes. Cause that works SO WELL across the world. /s A government with no accountability.

I think you fail to understand what political parties are actually for. Secondly. Weekly referenda are expensive, time consuming for both the election commission and the public as well as election fatigue runs down turnout.

If that’s Taiwan’s worst problem, we have it pretty good.

No, but you’re wrong.

Dammit @Marco I might just as well hand over my user profile to you. :sloth:

My clothes are literally illegal in Singapore.
