Okay, I can get what you are saying, but my beef with that statement it seems like having a limited view on what makes someone potential for being loved or lovable.
Hahahahahaaa! And you’ve been here how long?
A total of 10 WHOLE months.
But he seems to know everything there is to know about Taiwan.
Don’t try to tell him differently.
When did I ever proclaim that absurd notion? I don’t think or pretend to know everything about Taiwan. I was just relating my own observations from my own experiences.
Some people here have “ownership” issues with Taiwan
. Its a fairly big Island, I’m sure we can share it.

HAHA@ownership issues. ITs really because Taiwan is such a culture shock for the average , dare i say it ? LAOWAI that after seemingly years (or in reality YEARS) he/she finally can handle the place. So its like college and gettting a degree. Graduates frown on those who dont graduate and proclaim they have an MBA or some such. ITs like paying your dues and frowning on club members who dont and pretend to be all high faluting or somethin.

I do know that. And it isn’t what I think, its what many Taiwanese men often say.
And my girl has been my wife for the past 18 years.
Gee, and my girl will become my wife in 10 days.

CONGRATULATIONS !! :bravo:
I could imagine this happening in Thailand, but Taiwan? Come on, the days of blatant sex trade in Taiwan are pretty much a thing of the past. Sure, you see the occasional barber shop pole with no actual barber shop, or the teenagers and 20 somethings hanging around Ximen Ding waiting for that phone call, you hear stories of KTV’s as fronts for brothels (I have yet to have this officialy and factualy confirmed by both foreigners and Taiwanese alike, so far I see it as an urban legend of Taiwan)…but cab drivers soliciting sex services? I find that hard to believe. What part of Taiwan did this happen in and how long ago?
Sorry for the slow reply, but the last time this happened was about a month ago. It’s happened at least five times to me since I arrived in June. Maybe it’s my age (25?) my crappy Mandarin, my choice of destinations (random ones) or what?
I haven’t taken many taxis lately, mostly as I’ve been going out less and have been out of town for a bunch.
Taiwan’s sex trade is thriving according to a October article in the South China Morning Post… apparently the tight restrictions on Mainland tourists keep them from taking part in the booming sex industry on the island.
If you know anyone that works in a hotel, you’ll hear all about businessmen seeking massages, etc.
If you’ve never witnessed the sex industry at home, you’ve obviously never explored Zhongshan North Road in the evening. That whole area is rife with sex-related businesses (but you have to look or have it pointed it out - it’s not necessarily obvious).
Ok, perhaps I should clarify. I was talking in reagards to the sex trade in Taiwan for Wai Guo Ren. I know that Taiwan has a huge sex industry for the locals, but compared to places like Taiwan and the Philippines, Taiwan is hardly a sex trade destination for foreigners. So it wiould and did surprise me to hear a taxi driver in Taiwan soliciting sex services to a Wai Guo Ren.
I still have yet to hear of a Wai Guo Ren (Western Foreigner) entering a KTV seeking sex and being successful. I have yet to hear of a Wai Guo Ren picking up one of those teenage street workers in Ximen Ding, and I have yet to hear of a Wai Guo Ren who had the balls enough to actually walk into one of those seedy barber pole establishments and ask for something other than a haircut.
Well, now you’ve heard of one.

You can’t say that and not divulge a little more detail ![]()
