The Ministry of Justice’s Correctional Agency reported an inmate escape this afternoon from Green Island Prison. The 40-year-old inmate, Wang Tianyou, allegedly took advantage of work hours to lock the administrator in a storage room before escaping. Police are actively searching for him at Nanliao Harbor and the airport. As of nightfall, he has not yet been located. It is understood that Wang’s sentence was originally set to end in October next year, but due to meeting criteria for sentence reduction, he was expected to be released as early as July this year. The reason for his escape remains baffling.

According to reports, after Wang Tianyou was imprisoned in Green Island Prison, he was assigned to the building maintenance team, responsible for repairing prison facilities. His behavior was rated at the top level (Level 1), and he typically performed his duties well. However, this afternoon, during regular work hours, he took advantage of a moment when the staff was inattentive, locked the administrator in the storage room, and escaped. Since he was familiar with the layout of the facilities, it is suspected that he had planned this escape for some time, using simple tools to climb over the walls and flee.

Wang was imprisoned for a drug-related case and sentenced to 4 years and 7 months. After being transferred to Green Island Prison, he qualified for sentence reduction and was also eligible to apply for parole. If no issues occurred, his sentence would have been completed in July this year with the reduction. With only the last phase of his sentence remaining, his decision to escape while the staff was distracted is perplexing.

Today, Green Island experienced rain, and Wang was last seen working in shorts and a raincoat. With the strong northeast monsoon, it is feared that he does not have sufficient clothing to protect against the cold. The Taitung Police Department has dispatched additional officers to the island to apprehend Wang and has advised Green Island residents to remain vigilant and safe.

The Ministry of Justice’s Correctional Agency and Green Island Prison confirmed the escape incident this afternoon and are working tirelessly to capture the escapee.
Photos of the incident show the fugitive this afternoon, wearing a gray knit cap and a blue jacket, as captured by surveillance cameras.

The Green Island Township Office has released images of the escapee, Wang Tianyou, urging residents not to go outdoors.

Really, a drug offense? ready for early release in 6 mo. I thought Ludao was for the worst of the worst. turns out he is the worst.

His barber is the worst.

A bowl buzz cut? just a buzz would be way better. he probably had to bribe him for it.

They “caught” him.

He got cold and walked back to the prison.

Too bad, they need the room for the Taitung mayor, who went to Gina and met with government people and didn’t tell nobody. Whoopsie.

… seriously?

Are you doubting the veracity of my Taiwanese source?!
:face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I’m surprised at the lack of strength of the escapee, such that I’m questioning my gullibility.

Well, you saw his haircut. And seriously, where’s he gonna go? The ferry? Swim? lol

He could have at least tried to sneak onboard an aircraft or something. Why would you not try anything?

For fuck sake. It’s just sad.

What was he in for anyway? Incest?

Edit: earlier in the thread it says drugs. Just an idiot then

Unless you got a life sentence without parole it’s almost not worth the trouble to escape. Especially not when you got months until the sentence runs out. Now he will have charges added onto him.

A strange trivia is that in Germany, escape is actually not against the law as they deem it a natural human desire. However it doesn’t mean they won’t recapture you to serve out your original sentence, just that they can’t add charges to you.

I was hoping it was going to be like the guy in France who had a helicopter pick him up

Prisons on islands are ideal, but the reason Alcatraz was closed is because it’s really expensive to run. Everything must be shipped in and you can’t use large cargo ships because small islands lack the space for large ports.
