Evaporative water air conditioners

I’m wondering if the evaporative air conditioners which use water instead of a gas coolant are effective here?

Most of the time, probably not.
They don’t work well in high humidity. The dew point is the lowest they will cool the air to, and the higher the humidity, the higher the dew point. So if the dew point is 70 F great. But if the dew point is 90 F, not so great.

They do work well where I come from, Arizona, and any other deserts, I suppose, but not in the tropics.

I heard along time back that ASU received a grant to develop a salt water system that will work well in high humidity, but I never heard about the outcome of it.

Thanks.
