Exit Plan(s)

One of the great strengths of forumosa is having a resident clown who tells the truth.

Dead on!
That proves the old proverb. Pride comes before a fall.

Itā€™s not the end of the world for Taiwan.
Taiwanā€™s pride lead the country into a fall
at this time.

OK to expand on my previous post.

I left Taipei on 13 June with all required documentation Singapore airlines flying Singapore- UK
Lot of time spent getting through Exit in Taoyuan airport, all documents rigouressly checked.

Singapore escorted of aircraft by hazmat suited airport staff shepherded to a zone and green wristband applied so they know London bound other places using different colour.
Was ok could buy drinks and snacks.
Escorted again to correct gate when ready hey go if we go :grinning:

Little worried about queue at Heathrow and checking.
No problem through in 30 minutes no documentation asked for passport only, me and others where like WHAT! the fuck.

I signed for location tracing 2-8 day testing kit using **RT Diagnostics **.
Kit not delivered company not answering phone or replying to emails, Ā£81 and scammed it seems.

Not bothered ā€œunless I get checked up and fined lots of money ā€œ went to vaccine drop in Center day I arrived after much explaining got my first shot Astra Zeneca.

We are fully in control, no American tanks!

Thanks a lot for the info.

I am flying the same route at the beginning of July.

I booked the test to release option after day 5 of isolation.
Is anyone checking on you whether you are doing your quarantine?

Thanks!

I got my exit plan made. I booked my airfare to depart on July 14th.
What I need to go is make an appointment for my PCR test within
72 hours before I fly out. This flight I am taking back to Canada is
direct so that will be less trouble for me.

NO

I recommend if you still have a GP in UK,
mine deducted me as I hadnā€™t visited for 2+ years
Make a booking for vaccine online before you leave then go straight to vaccination clinic.

Not have a GP any longer join one online temporarily in area you will be staying - I had to that.

Is it too early to start a Re-Entry Plan thread? I might be the only one posting in it for a while.

Anyway, exited in late March. Got Pfizered up in April as soon as shots became available to the general public in Oregon. Just finished making my re-entry plan arrangements yesterday. Wasnā€™t easy because everything seems geared towards facilitating the rush to the exits right now. Coordinating return flight times and quarantine hotel check-ins in Taipei for July was a problem because they didnā€™t seem to take me seriously at first but finally got that done. Iā€™ll be hitting the streets of Taipei on August 4th. Hopefully Iā€™m not cutting it too close and the bobbleheads in charge will have gotten the situation well enough under control by then.

I think the situation wonā€™t get under control before November.
a) people inside all the time with aircon until mid october cause brutally hot
b) vaccines will take some time - need 30-40% on first dose and 20% fully vaccinated before it will work.

c) except if western governements jump on the ivermectin bandwagon - then the whole crisis will be over in no time.

I do hope fully vaccinated in November = no quarantine or only 5-7 days. Not doing 14+7 again but will wait before its max 1 week.

Iā€™m being told I donā€™t need to do the +7 because Iā€™ve been vaccinated and have the CDC documentation showing it. Only the 14. Maybe Iā€™ll get lucky and theyā€™ll relax the 14 days to 7 by the time I arrive later next month. My quarantine hotel has agreed to not charge me for 14 days if thatā€™s the case.

too early right now - but as Taiwan will not go down to Zero cases I feel (not if they test enough) that 14+7 makes less and less sense - especially if people are vaccinated (plus maybe have test as well before departure).

That reasoning was a major factor to me to leave Taiwan 4 weeks ago. I feel confident of getting back in much easier. Had Tawain stayed covid free - I do not think travel to Taiwan would have been easy before Mid 2022. Now I think this accellerates many things.

I was originally scheduled to return this Friday but postponed until July 20th due to the Covid situation. Since I wonā€™t get out of quarantine until August 4th Iā€™m hoping to catch a wave early.

I think itā€™s going to be the opposite. Reducing quarantine for vaxxed travelers wonā€™t be a priority for the government during this time, especially with the Delta variant out there.

The fact that theyā€™re saying pilots vaxxed outside of TW canā€™t get the same reduced quarantine as pilots being vaxxed in TW, even though Pfizer and Moderna have higher effiacy than AZ, shows you the type of thinking weā€™re dealing with here. A lot of it is not based on logic but rather appearances and CYA.

It will come, just when is the question.

Time will tell. When we told our family in Taiwan in late March that we were going to the U.S. to get vaccinated they tried to talk us out of it because the situation ā€œwas too dangerous in the U.S.ā€

So it goes.

That is amazingly bone-headed, even for Taiwan.

I knew that on average Taiwanese are very risk averse but the whole situation has made me realize thereā€™s a much deeper inability to analyze risk at work here, even in the parts of society where risk analysis is part of the job.

And how do you know this?
