Tis the season, and I can watch 2 of my top 4 on streaming this year. Here they are in no particular order, what are yours?
I like A Christmas Story. I usually watch the Garfield Christmas Special but that is way too short to count as a movie.
Die Hard is pretty good.
Elf
The Holiday.
Last Holiday.
Love Actually.
Raunch No 9—never thought the same about Mrs Claus after watching
I like scrooged too.
And those:
Bad Santa
Groundhog day (not Christmas, but winter)
Trading places
And: Kevin alone at home, haha.
Jingle all the way, an honorable mention.
Nothing says Christmas more than a terribly-produced 90s film with an exclusively-white cast. ![]()
There is only one
A Christmas Carol, 1951, Alistair Sims as Scrooge,
It’s a Wonderful Life. It’s not even close.
All That Heaven Allows and Klaus are good too.
I don’t know if there’s ONLY one, but that’s certainly the one I’ve watched the most at this time of year.
I once used the final scenes of that in class and may never do so again, because I was close enough to crying that I had trouble talking.
This one is nice to watch with the family:
My tie for favorite movie ever The Lion in Winter (tie with Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?) takes place at Christmas yet isn’t a Christmas movie per se. Still evokes much Christmas atmosphere, a historical drama film set around the Christmas of 1183.
Maybe you should add TV too?
‘Bad Santa’, ‘Scrooged’, ‘A Christmas Story’, ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ and ‘Elf’ are all great fun around this time of year.
‘Jingle all the Way’ with Arnie is kind of a guilty pleasure too.
Someone said Garfield, this is an open thread! But ok, added to the title ![]()
If it’s your Christmas movie, that’s what counts ![]()
Some people disagree about Die Hard. I don’t care!
Sinbad is white? News to me! (And probably him)
Gremlins and Rudolph the red nosed reindeer.
Going with an open mind and Spirited is good.
