just wondering, which apps people keep installed on their iphones.
right now I like:
LocateMe (as close as you’ll get for a gps for the iphone…for now anyway)
BossPrefs (great for controlling your iphone)
iBlackjack (goog game, but I’m holding out for texas hold’em)
with the release of the SDK looming, i’m sure there will be a lot more out soon. fingers crossed for some good games.
just installed touchpad, which allows you to control your pc with your iphone - it’s awesome! i’ve hooked it up to the plasma and am now using joost 24/7
I have a stupid newbie questions so please don’t be too hard on me. Just bought got my iPhone running to today. So I found I have Install.app already installed, an a bunch of apps already ready there. My question is, are these apps saved on the hard drive, and why do I need to go online to install them if they are already on the phone. Also, does Install.app automatically add new apps every time I log on, or do I need to manually install apps. Sorry if these questions have already been answered somewhere else.
The apps itself are not in the phone, it’s just the installation program (similar to installing certain software under Windows). Once you go online it starts to download the actual software package.
It does refresh the sources and add new apps and/or updates. But it’s also possible to manually add sources for installing applications that are not part of the Install.app program.
Slightly off topic, but:
My friend is in the States now and could pick me up the 8G/399$ or new 16G/499$.
Is it worth it? Is that new 16G just going to drop in price?
I’ve also heard that Apple may bring out a whole new 3G phone later this year.
Oh, what to do?
Thanks I kinda get it now, there is still so much to learn. Josefus I would just get the 8gig if you aren’t planning to take your whole DVD and music collection with you. I got a friend to pick me up a 8gig for 399 and got it unlocked at GuangHua for $1500. This device is the coolest thing I have ever owned. It does everything. I wouldn’t wait, it will be at least another 6 months before its coming to Asia, and I don’t see how much more they could improve it except for adding 3G and a video cam. I would just get it now, and enjoy being an exclusive group of iPhone owners while they are still a rarity. Man, I love this thing, wish I got it over my crappy CHT a year ago.
One last dumb question. Is there auto sleep function on the iphone. My old phone would dim and go to sleep after a set amount of time if the phone isn’t used. My iphone just stays on until I manually press the sleep button.
I have mostly been installing games. iPhysics has some cool games such as Crayon Physics and Moon Patrol. Sketches is excellent, you can take a photo with the camera and use paint features to draw on them. You then shake the phone like an etch a sketch to erase it. Tris is a good Tetris clone, and the NES emulator works really well.
The absolute best app I’ve installed and used is “Converter”. Sounds like some pretty lame units converter but does all sorts of stuff including Forex with realtime rates.
You think so?
It looks pretty cool, but I’ve found the controls don’t respond well.
It’s ok, you are right about the controls not being super responsive. It depends on whether the game requires a lot of input. But it works well for casual gaming, like killing 5 minutes waiting for the MRT.

Very handy.
Thanks for mentioning this program. It handles just about every possible unit you can think of. I have always wondered how many drops there are in a dram (72).
