Tbh, I am all for keeping energy prices low, it actually benefits the people with less money disproportionately more than people with money. Keeps also inflation more at bay. I was scared back in Italy last week at the petrol station, we are well above 2 EUR per litre of petrol, 2.2 for diesel. Nuts, especially with our low median income and high taxation and dependence on driving. My usual 1.5K fill up for my car here would get me less than half of a tank. Scary

CPC is a state owned company and the positive externalities of funding it to control other economic factors (inflation, cost of living) is fairly minor, especially in times when American stupidity isnât see-sawing the world over an oil shock.
The only major negative externality is that the low cost of gas unfortunately encourages private vehicle ownership and therefore pollution. Especially unfortunate given the size of the island â perfect for a more robust public transit system.
The same can be said about the healthcare system here. Ofc, affordable medical care is a much bigger societal boon than cheap oil.

Youâre probably a bit more than 45% closer to the source of that oil now 
100eur fills like 60% of my tank in Italy these days with diesel. The taxes on fuel in Italy is absurd at this point with these prices on top.
