For what do you pine?

Normally not much, but was in a 7-11 the other day and they had a (Chinese-language) radio station on and somebody was talking about visiting the Commodore Ballroom…rooted me to the spot till it was finished…fellow Vancouverites will know…

 1. Simpsons
 2. The Family Guy
 3. trick or treaters
 4. Thanksgiving dinners

You’re all in Taiwan, but I’m in Canada, and as such my list is a bit different:

 1. Good friends from all over the English-speaking world.
 2. Motorcycle rides in the mountains.
 3. Stumbing out of the pub at 3 AM and going to the night market for nigiri.
 4. That feeling that you just don’t care.

Boyfriends that won’t always ask for money and don’t have a tendency to turn into Psycho Didi’s after about 4 months or so …

… miss going on the German motorway and driving 180 km/h with Bossanova on my radio. At 180 my 200,000 km-old Mitsubishi indicates the structural integrity of the hull is at risk …

And miss driving. The avarage driving capability of a drunken chimpanse, as common with Taiwan drivers, stops me from driving here so far… :astonished:

Captain! Me engines canna take much more o’ this!

4. That feeling that you just don’t care.
I miss my colleague’s professionalism and pride in their work.
3. Fall scenery New England fall view
13. Real seasons - especially autumn in New England. Drives like this.

I second that, YC! Oh, to have been in my New England home when the Sox beat the Yanks and then dismantled the Cards while sipping a Geary’s.

big breasts

I kid you not…

I’ve heard 3~4 times that garlic is thought to make you horny so that’s a no-no for people seeking to distance themselves from the attachment of desire.

Chili peppers are thought to increase temper…

When my wife indulges her passion for garlic, the reek from her mouth has the opposite effect of making me feel horny.

Going to real malls (I mean ones with at least a sports shop, a pretzel store, an Old Hickory, and a Spencer’s Gifts)…none of these estrogen malls where the only reason I am there is to go to the movie theatre or in Taipei 101’s case, Page One or Jason’s

Going into a shoe store without getting a horrified look from the clerk when she looks at how big my feet are

Getting the same reaction when I darken the doorstep of a beauty salon here (and then they look up to my hair and faint!)

My mother’s chicken enchiladas loaded with cheese inside, outside, on top, and on my chin

Thick-ass chocolate milkshakes from the UDF down the street

Grape-cherry slushies, chili dogs, and smothered fries from Sonic Burger

Libraries

Having a whole conversation in French without any Mandarin sneaking in (or a whole sentence for that matter)

Hearing someone say “y’all”

Watching my niece grow up

Men.

Second freeway - I was at 160 there today.

Drivers are bad, but noone around there.

It’s just one of those days and you sit here in Taipei and think why the hell did I get here. Why did I leave all those female colleagues in my office back home coming to me to discuss why this fat man from consulting department is always looking at their bosom, so I looked at her and thought man, they are really big. She blushed and quickly closed her jacket. Or the other one complaining about sexual harassed by her boss, whom she invited into her house the other night and standing in the hall at night he wanted to … but she said no and so he is nagging about it every day writing to the secretary she should be fired for playing with his feelings. Or the fat guy again fiddling around for the opening of her bra on the back. I miss all those stories you get to hear when you are work councilor and those skinny office chicks here in Taipei would not have such problems and only ask me if they can touch my “big belly”. Now it’s raining and the depression got me and I am waiting for the John’s Wort to kick in maybe I should try the Prozac next Bob is always writing about in his depression posts.

For what do I pine? Good manners when someone dials the wrong number and calls your line by mistake. People here just hang up abruptly when they find out the person they’re looking for isn’t at this number. This habit is even more annoying when the call comes at an inconvenient time.

I miss

 1. my boyfriend
 2. the beach
 3. Cold Rock ice cream
 4. not feeling like a freak of nature
 5. Australian indie rock music
 6. Being able to get my hair colored well
 7. Leg and bikini line waxing
 8. Arylic nails that don’t cost a fortune and are well done

:bravo: on waxing

-people who don’t peer into my shopping cart to see what I eat

surfbunny: I have a friend in Taizhong, a Canadian girl who cut hair in Canada and London for years. She gets all of her coloring products from Canada and is awesome! if you want her number, PM me. SHe is willing to come to Taipei if you can get a few of you together to cut/color in the same day. She’s a ton of fun too!

I pine for sane government in the US.

You cant pine for something unless you have had it at one point or another :unamused:
