Forumosa.com Announces Strategic Partnership with PTT to Launch New Interface on 30 June, Celebrating 30 Years of Online Community

Taipei, Taiwan — Forumosa.com, Taiwan’s longest-running English-language online forum, is proud to announce a groundbreaking partnership with PTT, Taiwan’s most iconic bulletin board system (BBS), to adopt a new user interface (UI) modelled after PTT’s classic yet highly efficient design. The transition will take effect on 30 June 2025, marking the 30th anniversary of Forumosa’s founding.

This collaboration between Forumosa and PTT brings together two of Taiwan’s most enduring and influential online communities—Forumosa serving the international, bilingual community and PTT representing the local digital grassroots. The partnership symbolises a new chapter in digital dialogue, usability, and shared civic engagement.

“Forumosa has always been about fostering meaningful discussion across cultures and communities,” said @GooseEgg, co-founder of Forumosa.com. “By adopting a user interface inspired by PTT, we honour Taiwan’s vibrant internet heritage while evolving Forumosa to meet the needs of a new generation of users—mobile-first, text-based, and community-driven.”

The new interface will combine the speed, accessibility, and text-centred functionality of PTT with Forumosa’s robust tagging, moderation, and multilingual community support. Forum users can expect a sleeker, distraction-free experience optimised for discussion depth and fast-paced interaction, while preserving all historical posts and user data.

Key Features of the New Forumosa UI:

  • Minimalist, keyboard- and mobile-friendly layout

  • Dark mode and accessibility options based on user feedback

  • Improved threaded conversations with collapsible views

  • Enhanced speed and reliability for both desktop and mobile users

  • Seamless login for legacy Forumosa users

As the 30 June rollout approaches, Forumosa will conduct a series of preview events and public betas to gather community feedback and ensure a smooth transition. The legacy UI will remain available until 31 August 2025 to allow users time to adapt.

Founded in 1995, Forumosa began as a way for Taiwan’s expat and bilingual communities to connect, ask questions, and share information in the pre-Google era. With this transformation, Forumosa reaffirms its commitment to being a living archive, discussion space, and digital public square for the next 30 years.

GIFs shouldn’t be an issue, but the other stuff is just redundant and a distraction.

Gotta make sure they’re the old style, 256 colour variants that only take up like 50 KB

I think @MalcolmReynolds was complaining once that he couldn’t continue to use his old iPhone with the site. This should be good for an iPhone 3G. We don’t want to leave those users in the dust.

Awesome  Finally I can go back to use my Nokia 3310 :+1:  Haven’t charged it for a year though, So battery is down to 70%

PTT skin and keyboard shortcut?

Even people on D-card these days are old. Youngsters are on tiktiok I’m afraid.

And so are we. We’re old too. It only makes sense.

I’ll be impressed when we announce a strategic partnership with Douyin. We cannot let Yaya [not!] in Taiwan get all the views.
