Forumosa will be unavailable due to server maintenance

Forumosa, Taiwanted, Taiwanease… they are all going down

We are planning a system upgrade on Sunday around 6am. Our webserver will be unavailable during this time - which will affect our 3 main websites: Forumosa, Taiwanted and Taiwanease. We will close the forums on midnight, Saturday, 7 April and return around noontime (Taiwan Standard Time) on 8 April

You can visit our Web Blog at www.taiwanho.com/talk while we are down

We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience.

EDITED BY GOOSE EGG TO REFLECT NEW UPGRADE SCHEDULE

April 1st ? Good idea, that’s when they close down the internet for cleaning anyway.

Unfortunately, after all this time, we failed to accomplish what we hoped with this upgrade. We ran into trouble when other components of the web server needed to be upgraded as well.

We’ve held off and will attempt to upgrade everything next weekend. Please stay tuned

g.

We missed the April fools fun on Forumosa … smart …

that WAS the april fools fun on forUmosa. upgrade: gotcha!

some new features did get added, like a “related threads” panel below the posts. cool.

I guess so, but it was a very funny prank, if you asked me :fume: Then again, I’m glad we didn’t rush into things, too

You shouldn’t have told us that. Haven’t you heard of the placebo effect?

It’s much faster now than it was Saturday.

It’s your connectivity. No significant changes were made to the code over the weekend. If anything, we’ve actually added more processing to the forums

Here’s one change.
Normally I just click on “NEW” to see what’s been added since my last visit. This part still works, but after I look at a thread, I used to be able to just hit the “back” button on my browser (Firefox) to get back to the listing of new threads. This function doesn’t seem to work any more.

What happens when you try it?

It seems to work fine in both IE and FF for me. In IE it seems to try to reload the page, but in FF it seems to simply redisplay the NEW list from its cache - I say this because it instantly loads.

I now experience the same behaviour and receive the following message: You cannot make another search so soon after your last; please try again in a short while.

This is exactly what I am getting

What I do with the new threads page is right click on each of the threads I’m interested in and open them in their own tabs. That feels a lot less fussy to me than clicking the back button every time.

I’ll give it a try.
I don’t usually use the back button. I usually just “alt-left arrow” since I am using a notebook without a mouse.

I think ALT-LEFT ARROW is the same as the Backspace key in most browsers. I work off of a notebook much of the time, too - but I prefer to use the Backspace key when I can because it’s bigger on my keyboard, and simpler than ALT-ARROW

I’ve this problem

When I use “NEW” or “24/24” feature and there’s more than 1 page available to click. 2nd or 3rd or next gives me the above message :fume:

f.com doesn’t work at all on my office computer, since the upgrade. That’s not really a problem, though. Just get an error message and Explorer dies.

Just to clarify - this happens on the 2nd, 3rd, etc pages, right? I’ve encountered this problem here and other phpBBs. Searching www.phpBB.com will help - I’ll probably only get to looking for a fix later in the month, unless someone can help find a solution more quickly

What’s the error message? It will help knowing what it is. And when your IE “dies” do you mean it shuts down or stalls?

I’m guessing it’s a problem in your office computer. As I mentioned last Monday, we did not upgrade the server after all. We are trying again this weekend.

Yes, probly. It started last Monday so I assumed it was connected. Hartley’s computer too. Software error exception at line … or something, and then Explorer closes. I can check next time I’m in the office.
