Actually honestly no not really. Not being smug I just haven’t. I went to clubs a little when younger , but not really my thing.

Once we got drunk in Taichung, bunch of us foreigners went in it. Pimp and gangsters wanted 9k twd for it. Not sure either this is regular price or special waigoren discount. Just too expensive. Plus they were ugly with tone of make up, and skinny like they have been locked in basement for months.

Is ridiculous how much influence gangsters and mafia have in Taiwan. Is crazy how much they push up price. Customers end up paying it. Normal folks with decent jobs. One time they even pushed up price of carrot in the sky
Gangsters were even more powerful in the old days. Previously, they were even used as negotiators to settle petty disputes. These days people go to the courts instead for the small stuff. The gangs here are many but mainly in Taipei it is the “Bamboo Union” gang with numbers in the tens of thousands or more. They’ve mainly gone into non criminal activities now, but still have a large influence with politicians, judges, police etc. They derive from the “Waishen Ren” and were used a lot by Chiang Kai Shek. Their present day leader is female !
Other powerful ones which are more “Bensen Ren” and tend to operate more outside Taipei and Taichung include those such as “The Heavenly Way” gang. They generally almost never mess with everyday people , but if you cross them, then best to leave the Island.
