Google Pixel phones in Taiwan?

My beloved Pixel phone has died! It shut down while in my bag, and I can’t get it to turn on again, despite plugging it in and refreshing the power source . . . :sob:

What do I do now? Who can fix this kind of phone in Taipei? Any advice folks can provide would be much appreciated.

Guy

This might be due to a variety of issues. Have you tried to boot up in recovery mode? There is a list of steps to do before giving up and going to a local repair shop and asking them to look at it. Here is a good article (step 4): https://thedroidguy.com/fix-google-pixel-wont-turn-troubleshooting-guide-1066695

Btw, my Pixel 5 got bricked (wouldn’t boot, some motherboard issue) quite suddenly a while back as well, after about two years of usage. I think Google phones aren’t great for longevity, but hey I’d rather pay 15k on a flagship & upgrade every two years than pay 30k for an iPhone and upgrade every four years

@DunderMifflin the trouble shooting worked! I held the power button down for 30 seconds—no progress, still a black screen. Then I tried to get to “safe mode” by holding down the power button, this time for about a minute—and finally the elusive Google logo appeared. The phone appears to be functioning now . . .

Like your situation, my Pixel phone is now getting close to two years old. Damn I don’t want this thing to die so soon. It’s a good machine and it’d be a waste to have to trash it. At least that unhappy outcome seems to be averted for now.

Many thanks again!

Guy

Deep discharge can happen too especially after a system crash. Connecting 1 hour to power and holding buttons for a long time usually solves some problems…
Also power and volume up or down for 10 seconds after connection to charger can help…

Usually dead phones are about battery or ports (except mechanical damage that is obvious).

I have a 6 year old S7 galaxy that I boot up like once a year and deep discharge always makes it hard to switch on.

Also, back up your phone if it starts behaving weirdly. Make sure all your photos and videos are safe in case it dies.

That is a very misleading title. All that affects are phones with Samsung modem.

How’s that? I can’t see that. It does say:

The devices affected are:
Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7 and 7 Pro

It is an Exynos (Samsung) issue. All latest Pixel phones use that modem though. March update fixes the problem.

Not unusual. For example there are often Qualcomm chip security issues which then affect various phone brands.

Pixel phones get their updates first.

So I wasn’t being grandpa in turning off my WiFi calling for now?

I have one discount code for each for Google Store TW valid until April 7. Let me know if anyone wants a code.

Pixel 7 Pro NT$20,242
Pixel 7 NT$14,242
Pixel 6a NT$9,793

(Might not work on a different Google account :man_shrugging:)

Sweet deal!

Yeah, I just got that e-mail too. Those prices look pretty good!

Just read the small print, discount could be account locked. Can try anyway.

I got it too. I’m very tempted, but I just can’t find any reason to let go of my 5.

Same with my 6 Pro. Should be good to go for a while

I am waiting to see if Pixel 8 at the end of this year is any good.

Lo and behold, the second I say that, my phone’s battery is bulging out of the case again. Same thing happened to my 2, but that was after almost 4 years of use. My 5 is only 2.5 years old. :smiling_face_with_tear:

I do see Google has the 6 available for less than 10k. Might just go with that as I know the 6 is a bit more solid than the 7.
