I managed to get it on my phone and paid through my mobile provider (just added to my bill), and once the account and payment was set up could access through the app on my apple tv
HBO go doesn’t have all of the content, need HBO max for that, which isn’t available in Taiwan
When will they add deadwood back? Why they have deadwood the movie but not the Series? I just want to finish deadwood

HBO Go is just heavily compressed HD, and looks the worst out of all current streaming platforms.
I hope I’ll be able to access it with my Canada-based Apple Store devices. I’m only able to access HBO Go if I keep switching my iPad between the Canada and Taiwan stores, and it’s just not been worth the effort to do so.
So today HBO Go Asia has become HBO Max. I’ve updated and installed the new app, and it’s really impressive so far.
All the big HBO shows are now in 4K with Dolby Atmos, for example Game of Thrones, Last of Us, Penguin. But alot of movies and other TV shows are also in 4K, for example Beetlejuice, IT, and Sex and the City.
Picture quality for HD shows/movies is also greatly improved.
Another good thing , you can create separate user profiles where one is in English and the other is in Chinese. Just like Netflix. Plus a separate profile for kids.
Edit: you can also change the subtitle size and color, similar to Disney+.
Great. I started watching GOT again and am in Season 4. I’ve been happy with the streaming on my laptop and desktop. Haven’t used it much on my TV yet but now have hinet 300mb up down on fiber at home so might try it on the TV
They’ve also added a bunch of trashy reality shows: 90 Day Fiancé, the 1000lb Sisters, My 600lb Life. Looking forward to watching those.
Only weird thing is I migrated my Google Play store subscription from HBO Go to Max, and I’ve someone ended up with 2 subscriptions.
They also tried to give me 3 months for the price of 1, billed as “standard(quarterly)” - maybe an Introductory offer? - but I skipped that and instead subscribed to “ultimate” (their 4K package).
Seems they only offer to subscribe through Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
2 famous HBO shows are missing from Max:
No Westworld. Apparently HBO sold the rights to another streaming site called Tubi, which you can’t get in Taiwan.
No Oz (the HBO prison drama). Apparently it is owned by Paramount in some regions.
Also missing deadwood, the movie is there for some reason though
