HBO Go - streaming service now in Taiwan

HBO Go is a Taiwan/Asia thing. They don’t have it in the US or Canada. They have something else called HBO Max.

If you want the HBO Go app, then you’ll need the Taiwan App Store. If you want to keep your App Store Canadian, then subscribe to HBO Max instead, and use a VPN.

I’m stuck again. How do you buy HBO go? Do you need a cable provider? It keeps asking me for my provider

I know. I tried to say that above, but apparently not very clearly.

Apparently you have to go to the phone store and apply. You can’t pay separately. At least I couldn’t see any way

Well, I did it! I now have AppleTV+. :joy:

Are you trying to subscribe? Go to their website on a computer.

Has to be on a computer and not mobile?

If you like sci-fi, they’re developing a good catalogue. If you don’t like sci-fi, well, not so much.

Oh and “Wolfwalkers” is an excellent animated film.

If I remember correctly, yes. Once you’ve sign up on a computer you can then sign in and watch on your mobile app.

At least that’s how it was when I signed up two years ago.

Ok I’ll try it on my pc later thanks!

Just raised prices recently. I enjoyed most of hijack, Ted lasso and saw a few episodes of shrinking that I enjoyed before I cancelled. Don’t reccomend monarch though it wasn’t my cup of tea

Last week I couldn’t find a way to sign up for HBOGo on my computer: the only way I found was 1) changing to the Taiwan App Store on my iPad; 2) downloading the HBOGo app; 3) presumably signing up in that app while still in the Taiwan App Store, using I believe my wife’s credit card. But I didn’t finish signing up because, well, it’d reached the stage where less legal options had become far easier.

I figured it out but I can’t believe just how broken it is.

  1. You can only do it from within the mobile app through Google play
  2. In the Google Play Store, there’s a little icon with a letter in the top right, click this and change to a new Google account or one made in Taiwan
  3. The store changes to Taiwanese app store. Search for and download HBO go app
  4. Click sign in or make account using the same email you used for the Taiwanese google account
  5. Finally a button appears saying you can use Google pay account. Here you can add your debit or credit card. Finally it will allow you to use your card

They don’t have deadwood on HBO go for some reason. Only the movie. That was one series I wanted to finish watching. Not sure why it’s not here

It all depends on contracts and exclusivity agreements with TV, cable, and other streaming service providers, so what’s available will vary by country just like Netflix.

But deadwood was produced and distributed from HBO themselves. There shouldn’t be any rights issues involved. Especially strange since the other legacy series are all there like sopranos and the wire

Also in HBO go app, there’s a giant HBO logo water mark in the top right that never goes away. It’s not there on max.

Some HBO shows/movies are shown here on cable channels. Just depends on the contract they negotiated with them.

Rights are weird. Scavengers Reign is an excellent animated show that Max aired in the USA late last year. It’s gotten fantastic reviews and word of mouth, but judging by the subreddit, it’s hard to find legally in most places outside the USA, despite all the different HBO and Max streaming services.

I subscribed 3 months for 290ntd. Is quite good for that price. I wish video quality is bit better. I have good internet connection so it’s not about that, but I’m using very good projector…
