Head to Head, The Music Never Stopped being argumentative Thread

Agreed.

OK, new twist…so what Beatles song pairs with this?

Woke up in a panic,
Like somebody fired a gun
I wish I could be dreaming,
But the nightmare’s just begun.
There’s flooding in the basement,
There’s water all around.
There’s woodworm in the attic
And the ceiling just fell down.
I’m in a state (state)
Of confusion (whooooh).
I’m in a state (state)
Of confusion (whooooh).

All the dirty dishes
Are still in the kitchen sink.
The tumble dryer’s broken,
Now the telly’s on the blink.
My girlfriend’s packed her bags
And moved out to another town.
She couldn’t stand the boredom
When the video broke down.
Don’t know why I feel so bad.
Is it the weather, or am I going mad?
Don’t know why I feel this way.
I don’t know whether I’m coming or I’m going,
Can’t cover up 'cause it’s obviously showing.
It’s a state (state)
Of confusion (whooooh).
We’re in a state (state)
Of confusion (whooooh).
I don’t know whether I’m coming or I’m going.

Should feel happy, should feel glad.
I’m alive and it can’t be bad,
But back on planet Earth they shatter the illusion,
The world’s going 'round in a state of confusion.

Standing on an island
In the middle of the road.
Traffic either side of me,
Which way will I go?
I should’ve stayed at home,
I should have never come outside.
Now I wish I never tried
To cross the other side.
I’m in a state (state)
State of confusion (whooooh).
It’s a state (state)
Of confusion (whooooh).

Lyin’ awake in a cold, cold sweat,
Am I overdrawn, am I going in debt?
It gets worse, the older that you get.
No escape from the state of confusion I’m in.
State of confusion I’m in.
Whooooh

For those who love the 69

Gainsbourg et son Gainsborough
Ont pris le ferry-boat
De leur lit par le hublot
Ils regardent la côte
Ils s’aiment et la traversée
Durera toute une année
Ils vaincront les maléfices
Jusqu’en soixante-dix

Soixante-neuf année érotique

Is your French that good? Can you hear that like as in Canadian English?

If yes, then, that’s awesome.

My hearing is ok, speaking is shite. Academically it rocks (C1 level) because the equivalency type of tests focus on food, cunnilingus and French history (the holy trinity  ), which I can sort of use to my advantage.

Gainsbourg was the king of the double entendre, wordplay and puns so very easy to understand.

As expected. :+1:

I wonder if Yoko could? That’s a lot of processing, but returning to it again and again after repeated plays…one might learn some neat French…ahem…terms of endearment. ;0

“To seek the sacred river Alph
To walk the caves of ice
To break my fast on honey dew
And drink the milk of Paradise…”

I had heard the whispered tales
Of immortality
The deepest mystery
From an ancient book. I took a clue
I scaled the frozen mountain tops
Of eastern lands unknown
Time and Man alone
Searching for the lost — Xanadu
Xanadu — To stand within The Pleasure Dome

Decreed by Kubla Khan
To taste anew the fruits of life
The last immortal man
To find the sacred river Alph
To walk the caves of ice
Oh, I will dine on honey dew
And drink the milk of Paradise

A thousand years have come and gone
But time has passed me by
Stars stopped in the sky
Frozen in an everlasting view
Waiting for the world to end
Weary of the night
Praying for the light
Prison of the lost — Xanadu

Xanadu — Held within The Pleasure Dome

Decreed by Kubla Khan
To taste my bitter triumph
As a mad immortal man
Nevermore shall I return
Escape these caves of ice
For I have dined on honey dew
And drunk the milk of Paradise

Ripple
Touch of Grey

These are my Dead favorites.

Seems to be a lot of people in this thread that consider lyrics most important. They are secondary to me. I want something that sounds pleasing or better yet completely dominates me emotionally and spiritually, making me a puppet. Probably why I love dissociative and hallucinogenic drugs.

Edit… Google doesn’t like my links, fuck it.

I like Ripple a lot. Doin’ That Rag. Morning Dew. A bunch of others above

IDK if they are most important, but when comparing, lyrics hold weight.

Dead favorites are a tricky thing. LIVE Dead shows gave a very different feel to a song. For example, Sugar Magnolia is a ballad on the album, but a rock song live. Dark Star on the studio album is a joke compared to the live versions.

But, even then, Weir’s lyrics and Jerry’s were waaaay different. The Hunter/Garcia pairing was truly special imho.

That was my transition song when I was in the kindergarten class. They loved it.

btw, I was spinning Harvest Moon last night.

Lyrics. Good.
Music. Good

Harvest, or Harvest Moon. I actually prefer the latter, but both are brilliant. Harvest gets higher highs and lower lows, but Harvest Moon sets a wonderful mood and largely holds it throughout.

Harvest. My bad.

No worries, I have empathy for those who’ve had their minds addled by too much Grateful Dead listening. As I said, I love Harvest, but you’ve accidentally reminded me of the attenuated beauty of Harvest Moon, to which I’ll start listening soon as I go to bed.

My wife loves that song. It’s wonderful.
