Health Snacks

Gonna get the diet and exercise regime kickstarted on Monday. I need to think of some healthy snacks.

Please note that I do not consider fruit and vegetables to be snacks. Munching on a bit of celery or eating an apple just doesn’t do it for me.

Anyone know of any healthy cracker kind of things you can buy in Taiwan? (I can do cucumber and tomato on a cracker).

What’s something good and healthy to stick onthe top of German Ryebread?

Anyone ever seen good reasonably priced muesli?

Any other good ideas?

Brian
Anyone ever seen good reasonably priced muesli?
Xinlong supermarket sells organic muesli for 160NT. That may not seem very cheap, but it looks better when you consider that they sell the same weight of non-organic muesli for the same price. If you make your own ‘yoghurt’ (actually kefir) with those little sachets and put that on the muesli it’s pretty healthy.

Do your munching on carbs after noon.
Stick to fruit and veg ONLY before lunch.

Btw, snacking isn’t conducive to rapid weight loss anyway. Especially thinking ahead about what you’re going to snack on once you do start!

Try tortillas if you must. Bake them and eat with fresh salsa. Costco’s your place. No cheese!

Alien, I’ll have to take recourse ala Texas beef barons vs. Ophra for talk like that!

I think it was Oprah who said you shouldn’t bother to eat cheese but spread it straight on your ass instead.
For men, it’s beer. Just don’t drink beer for six months and see what happens, Bri.

I’ve been eating a lot of cheese lately, and my ass still looks like David’s.

When’s the last time you even saw your ass?
Btw, snacking isn’t conducive to rapid weight loss anyway.
Rapid weight loss probably isn’t a good idea for most people – something more gradual and sustainable would be better. Eating little, often, to keep blood sugar levels stable and hunger pangs to a minimum is a good thing. Don’t know whether that counts as ‘snacking’ or not.

You’re right about that, but I meant in more of a “motivational” way.
Rapid weight loss in men is quite feasible, and although may not be good, seems to be more sustainable in them than in women.

I know, Brian. Just go travel in India for three months. You won’t be snacking, nor will you be hungry.

If you

Try slicing an apple, pear or guava and spreading not-too-liberal amounts of tahini (zhima jiang), peanut butter (huasheng jiang) or marmite on it. Try filling the groove of a stick of celery with Philadelphia cream cheese. I think your opinion of these snacks will change.

Is it made with toasted sesame seeds?

A piece of Cheddar cheese with an apple is a great snack, although hard cheeses have more fat than soft ones, unfortunately.

Easy to get. Just go to any supermarket or convenience/corner store and ask for zhima jiang. (See the “Where to buy hummus?” and threads.)

Raw ones, I think. Does it matter? It’s unsweetened, anyway. Usually eaten with noodles here.

芝麻醬
Easy to get. Just go to any supermarket or convenience/corner store…
Thanks Juba. Actually I had a couple of posts from a while back in one of those threads you linked to, but your post reminded me that sesame paste would be a good thing to buy. I haven’t seen it in my local supermarket, but then I haven’t been looking for it. I’ll ask the staff there.

Pumpkin seeds are also very good for you (especially for the prostrate, apparently), but I never used to like them until my Italian housemate toasted and salted some for us.

Drink good pu er tea. Will flush out your system and make you pee like crazy. Oh and it packs a punch too…Great for a kickstart to the day.

Too bad you are a veggie only guy, the Atkins Diet worked wonders on me.
