Household registration on rental property, what happens when we move?

We will be leaving our current house. Wife has her household registration there, votes here, setup company here. The new landlord wont allow to register her household registration there.

So what now? We had a big falling out with the current landlord, he is a real ass hole and very illegal. So dont care much about him. Should we just keep it there for now?

If she must become “HRless” what then for the company (not registered there but in same county), voting and all that?

Isn’t that illegal? Wasn’t there some law about renter’s rights for the household registration?

The new guidelines focus on three main aspects of renters’ frustrations in Taiwan, though it will contain additional regulations. The guidelines stipulate: 1. The deposit must not exceed two months’ rent; 2. The landlord must not prohibit tenants from registering household registration; and 3. Landlords must not overcharge for electricity usage. The second point also applies to early termination of a lease, and the third point will follow electricity prices set by Taipower.

Is anything forcing you to remove it?

New landlord or sue.

Your only options.

When we move, the current landlord told us to change it. As you guys probably can see I am VERY ignorant about HR laws. I am quite happy telling the old landlord to stuff it due to who he is, but at the same time it does seem in the wrong to have ther house register someone that doesnt live there, so i have a moral issue doing this.

@keoni tha.ks for that info. Going to read into that tonight, cheers. The big issue though is that la.dlords will simply not rent to you and that does seem to be their option. We live in deep countryside where if we sued (@marco) we would be blacklisted asap for many townships around. This is the frustrating side of taiwan. I could probbaly sue and win. But life would absolutely become so miserable it wouldnt be worth living here anymore. Thats the sad truth. Plus the few houses available are all illegal so they want to hide stuff and avoid tax.

I am good with everything, just my wifes HR must stay in county as we cooperate with government, ngo, universities etc and many projects are via county government thus follow HR.

Thanks for the thoughts. Any other suggestions more than happy to recieve. Going to brainsprm and read the laws posted above. Cheers guys/gals

You can register a company anywhere you want, isn’t it? The company address doesn’t really matter. I have no idea about what farmland you’re renting.

Yes . I only mentioned the company because it isnt registered at our home, so that is a non issue. Its just my wifes HR that is the worry. I just cant see “going stateless” type scenario being possible haha. The farms dont matter either, they dont need HR to rent. The projects on said land do sometimes require us to be from certain counties. Therein lies the necessity to have HR here.

Buy something there, something smallish.

That would be ideal. Unforunately operating farms are incredibly expensive and we are expanding factory. In the red…

If only we could just buy a house in this inflated market

You won’t go stateless because you lose your HHR but you do end up with issues voting. But losing HHR because of being out of the country for too long vs. losing the house is different.

Most register with their parents though… and 90% of all landlord would not let you register.

Ya, not literally stateless, but things seem like they will become a problem. Voting project, cooperations that require being “from” a certain county.

Basically we can consider she doesnt have the option of registering with parents/family.

another problem is if you quality for government assistance, they are all based on household registration.

Considered going to the local household registration office to ask for help?

Yep, but only as a last resort. Good suggestion.

That is the nuclear option. If you do this the landlord will evict you.

Don’t be a twat. If the landlord doesn’t want you to register but is otherwise agreeable, just register at a relative’s or friend’s who has a permanent residence. Plus that way you can pick and choose which locale is most beneficial.

As said there are no relatives here. I dont think its being a dick wanting basic rights and to follow the law either…

Ps. Permanent residence (aprc) dont have household registration…

Yes you do. I’m APRC and have the family registration stuff.

I agree.

The HHR system here—especially how it’s experienced by renters—really sucks!

Really? APRC holders can have HR paperwork on their own? Usually they are attached to local family. Never heard of HR here for foreigners outside of naturalizing or joining family, nor do i have it. We only register our address with t he same government body for our IDs, but its not the same paperwork.

Or am I WAY off the mark and foreigners can obtain HR? Not that it matters as the landlord said no anyway, not sure how asking if the foreign husband can instead haha
