But if China still demands countries recognise it only and cuts relations with those that recognise Taiwan, even if the country recognises both, it doesn’t really change anything in practise.

Well the old ACIO office is now just the Australia Office. Names can change. Does not really matter as they are staffed by government officials with diplomatic protections. In effect you may as well say Australian Embassy but it would hurt the feelings of the “Chinese People” in another country. Career diplomats from DFAT & Immigration are posted to Taiwan. Career Taiwan diplomats are posted to Australia.

I worked for Taiwan’s international development agency in the early 2000s and have a lot of respect for the folks that work in the field. A lot of South American countries were anti-Communist back in the day (which explains the long standing relations), and the KMT’s scholarship programs sent the elite to some very good schools abroad. Helped cement a lot of long-standing ties.
It’s become more Taiwanized in the last 20 years.
That being said, the agricultural diversification projects, SME development stuff, medical missions —have done a lot of good. Very hardworking Taiwan staff in overseas missions.
Not at the TECO in Rome or HK, I can assure u🤣 I hope the to-be-opened TECO in Milan will be a different case

Basically, China told Honduras to break up the FTA. Note it was not Taiwan. That said, the shrimp exporters from Honduras are quite concerned. However, Honduran minister says China has gazillion dollars to buy and that the paperwork for export and sanitary permits is on its way…
Oh and that China will provide lots of assistance.

That’s MOFA consular, not the aid workers who specifically work in agricultural diversification, medical missions, SME development, microfinance, infrastructure development projects etc., in Latin American, Caribbean and Oceania countries that officially recognize the ROC.
MOFA r mofos then haha. thank God didn’t have any major issues with them, but I know of many cases in the office in Rome. The one in HK they were just slackers tbh, had to push them a bit to give me my authentications.
