Hello glad I found out about the forum here!
I have only been here several months and now that I am kinda getting used to Taiwan I have gone out on a few dates. But I don’t know what to make of the girls here? The first girl I went out with was 24 but had to call in with her mom after 8pm, 9pm, and 10? She had to be home before 11pm on Sat? Did not work - 3 dates in I had to get away from that.
Number 2 was a girl who just wanted to shop, shop, eat, shop, says she makes $25,000 a month, conversation was very weird, almost surreal. She bought at least 15,000 grand worth of stuff (shoes really) the last date! She lives at home but damn?
And the latest last week. 23 sexy, but I am not exaggerating she acted like she was 11 or 12 years old? A real Hello Kitty fetish and had to check the I-phone every 5 mins…OK 15 mins. Maybe I am not adjusting? It’s all new. 1 guy told me sounds normal to him.
What kind of girls are Taiwanese girls? They looked more sophisticated to me. My last experience was 3 months in Italy and 1 month in Germany before working here and I like it so far, but the ladies are different. Clothes girls I guess but what should I expect, best way to find someone mature and somewhat balanced is ?..Not perfect but maybe sensible I guess. I DON’T KNOW? Any tips? I’ve read around here a bit but there must be more to the girls? I know it is only 0-3 but the first 3 were

Welcome to flob … and to 'wan princesses (general category for single women living with parents whose life goals are indeterminate but the decision process is replaced by shopping, eating, texting, gfs, being seen with bf doing the preceding, keeping bf away from parents, school/work, in that order). You’ll have to start learning Mandarin and shift your field of play to grad school, sports, volunteering, or dog-walking to improve the odds of a conversation or getting laid. Or just hang out at a waiguo bar.
I’d say hang out with groups that go to events, world trade center shows, and really talk to some of the girls here. There are some Taiwanese girls that are sophisticated and mature, but they are few and far between especially before 30 or so. I have had female friends that fall into the area you describe and some that are sophisticated. The “Sophisticated” girls are more well traveled, educated abroad more often and scare a lot of local guys off. Trust me they are out there but you had better be paitent and move around the city/island. It’s like a foreign girl finding a local guy that knows what to do on a date and isn’t just an expert on Warcraft, a master of cooking instant noodles and wants to leave home before age 32. Not easy.
For the most part, the young ladies here in Taiwan live with their parents until they’re married. Occasionally you’ll find someone more independent. Yes, there are clothes-addicts; yes, there are Hello Kitty girls; yes, there are women in their late 20s (and 30s! and even 40s!) who act like they’re teenagers. But not all of them are like this. There’s a variety of women with a variety of interests and personalities, as is true anywhere. My advice: keep looking.
I know a girl down here who’s AWESOME, though she is into shopping. She actually wants to make a career out of it, go into retail at a department store and work her way up. Coolest girl I have met EVER. Her parents won’t let her move out though @.@;;; Or change jobs (because retail isn’t a real job). Unfortunately that’s one of the situations where you either live with it, get married or get disowned; she’ll push it all the time though.
She’s a bit too forward and outspoken for the local boys down here, all the foreign guys she likes tend to have girlfriends (or are assholes with 4 girlfriends). Don’t suppose you fancy a blind date in TN?

Yes. Those girls are out there. And they are mostly single cuz those locals don’t fancy them at all.
It’s a culture thing, mate. If you read the papers or watch a bit of local tvs here, you’ll get what I mean.
Asians boys tend to like girls with massive boobs and chopstickish limbs. And they expect us to talk " cute"and act " innocent".

I’ve got a student who is AWESOME. No idea how old she is but looks to be latish 20’s early 30’s (which probably means she’s right in 30’s, cause these ladies always look so young!)
Anyways I am so impressed with her- she’s incredibly intelligent, fun, down to earth, and she’s got a certain spark that seems to be missing in a lot of women here- she’s got character, confidence, and none of the weird bambi innocent act. Just a real awesome woman. Cute too. I mean I’m a heterosexual woman myself but if I were a dude I think I’d do her. yeah.
Anyways we were talking and she says she can’t get a boyfriend here because she’s too tall (she’s pretty tall) and I suspect it has something to do with the fact that she’s confident and wouldn’t, for example, cower behind her boyfriend if she saw my dogs on the beach like so many women here do.
Anyways we were having our girl talk and after much prodding she told me about the boyfriend thing. I told her maybe I could hook her up with a foreign dude cause theyr’e less likely to want a bambi cyborg stick thin big boobed princess (maybe? am I over-estimating my countrymen?) and she said okay, maybe that’d be okay (but didn’t seem foreign fetish thrilled about it).
Then I immediately realized that none of my foreign guy friends (though I love them!) are good enough for her. They’re all chasin tail and too young and don’t seem to be looking for something real.
So’s I guess what I’m saying is, if there’s a guy on here who’s not going to one night stand her and would like to meet a real, quality girl, who’s English is pretty darn decent and has a cool spark to her, I might be willing to arrange a date. But the dude would have to be quality.
And yeah of course there are cool chicks here, maybe they just put on the wierd innocent hello kitty act because that’s what this society has told them it wants.
Lady! with the big dogs on the beach…what impresses a woman about another woman isn’t necessarily what impresses a guy…we guys, regardless of our age, want to get laid. We want to know f she will put out and fairly rapidly at that…we don’t care about confidence, cool or intelligence. We don’t.
So if you could do that proding thing that you do during your next girlie and find out if she is any good in the sack I would definitely be interested. Oh, by the way, I am confident, cool and intelligent.

but some guys are better at seeing a bigger picture, or at least faking it reasonably well. That’s the sort I’m after for the student in question- a dude who will appreciate her for more than just her vagina…while also appreciating her vagina. And sometimes that means waiting a bit before doing the deed, build a little anticipation, then when it happens it feels more like an honor and less like a worthless exchange of bodily fluids.
So yeah, my student isn’t up for your grabs- I don’t worry for ya though, I think there’re plenty of girls who will give you exactly what your after, and if you’re lucky maybe they’ll leave some hello kitty paraphernalia at your place when you’re done! SCORE! x2
Bang on you guys… I’ve done the nice guy routine in the past, and the girls never appreciated it. It is the easiest way to get on the friends only side of the girl.
However, there is a balance between complete douchebaggery and/or being a pushover, and that is the hardest thing to perfect for most guys.

I have a girlfriend and was ‘there’, a number of times, around 12 hours ago. I kinda ‘transitioned’ to my current girlfriend as I ended my last relationship, so I’m not exactly trudging around burdened by ponderous bollocks like some impecunious monk. Don’t get me wrong, I think most guys expect to get laid pretty quickly at the start of a relationship. But to say that guys don’t care about intelligence or personality just isn’t true for all guys. All else being equal, I find intelligent, funny and strong minded girls far more sexy than, well, stupid, boring girls who like to look at handbags. I’d definitely put it the extra effort if the girl was special enough. And anyway, how long is it really going to take?

btw, for all the advice about older Taiwanese women, whereas that may increase the odds, I’ve met some here in their forties that were a bigger nightmare than some of the 20 year olds. Really depends on the individual. I will say this, though. If or when you find a good one, latch on and don’t let go. Treat her like gold, because a good one (here or anywhere - male or female) is rare.
I’ll admit that it might be more difficult for one to find what one is looking for in Taiwan. And - no insult to the OP, as I know his title was edited for reasons of specificity - but the way to find a mature, sensible TW girl is to be a mature, sensible boy.
I wish the OP was still around to tell us whether the more serious girls he is looking for are needed for long-term or short-term fun.
