How to leave Taiwan after China declares war?

This would be the only way out. Get a yacht/fishing boat. Northern escape route from Yilan, make it to the Kuroshio stream, up to the smaller Japanese Islands like Ishigashi. Southern route would be to Filipinas.

However, be advised that recently Chinese air force/navy had been training just in that area between Taiwan and Japan. So it means you have to evade them somehow.

Southern way depends on where the Filipinos stand on refugees.

And any small boat would be at the mercy of the Chinese fishing militia. Taiwanese cannot rely on large numbers of boats as they would be spotted/sank more easily. And if you think the Chinese won’t and respect the Geneva convention, buahahaha

I’m guessing you have evacuation shelters nearby? I often see signs for them around, but no idea where the closest one to me is off the top of my head (I don’t even remember where the closest sign is either tbh).

The article above suggests there’s a map, at least for Taipei City…but you have to download the Taipei City Police Department app to see it. Err…no thanks.

Taipei alone boasts 26,000 sites that can accommodate up to 21 million residents, and navigation is easy using the Taipei City Police Department (北市警政) app, per ETToday. If their mobile devices are inaccessible during an emergency, people can always seek shelter in the nearest public facility, such as a bank, underground mall, or metro station.

Some garages have some storage areas. Water, canned goods, first aid and them, defense aids would be helpful down there.

I am still trying to find out the range of Chinese nuclear bombs. Saying they blast one over the Presidential Office, that means at least 12 km radius is kaput. Xindian is 8km, Yilan or anything over the mountains should be survivable.

To be honest if I’m that near to a nuclear blast, I think I’d rather be at ground zero than anywhere supposedly survivable.

This one is for Tainan.

No you don’t. Click on the google maps link for your location from here.

It’d be best if you look into how many passport holders from your country there are here and decide whether you have a chance in hell of your country sending rescue planes as well.

As an example: There are around 2000 Canadians here and 50 000+ “Canadians” here.

Aww. Apparently my building doesn’t count. I wonder how that’s determined - if I’m reading that correctly, it looks like none of the newer (usually taller) buildings near me qualify.

Ah okay, thanks. I just saw that the map in the article was a non-clickable screenshot.

Still, there are like hundreds of red markers near me - is it just every basement in the area? I can imagine rocking up at one of those and knocking on the door, just to find out it’s somebody’s cellar crammed full of old fridges and recycling.

Jesus, @Icon. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Urgh, don’t scaremonger. Anyway, seriously doubt they would drop a single 10-megaton nuclear bomb on the presidential office and just leave it at that.

Even if total destruction were the strategy, there’s probably something worth destroying in Xindian too. Don’t you have an RT-Mart?

i’m personally tired of hearing about it from my dad. he (american) watches cable news and he always has to remind me to leave taiwan if things get bad and “keep an eye on things”. i also shrug. while it’s good to be prepared i suppose, i think he needs to turn off the tv…

I was worried about the same, especially because my girlfriend and I are not married yet (Though maybe it would be useful to inform the Italian consulate that she is my convivente di fatto).

“people can always seek shelter in the nearest public facility, such as a bank …”

The vault!

Foreigners will be asked for their passport and ARC before being allowed to shelter in the bank.

Schools.

Made In China? Falls apart on the way down.

Don’t forget janky made up Chinese name stamp and a piece of mail addressed to you.

If you live near Sanxia forget it, they have a major military research facility, specialized in missiles.

Those are called cluster bombs
