Great, I’ll meet you up on the exposed parts of the Taoyuan plateau.

Nooo thanks…long gone from there ;).

Miso soup, or chowder. Miso soup is cheap and easy to make at home.

Unfortunately, it’s not really a joking matter for many of the elderly here, not used to cold temps. The daily ambulance trips to our community suggest that people here do not know how to adjust to colder temperatures and their houses are ill-suited to them as well. The combination is often deadly. They sit at home because it’s too cold to go out, not realizing that the cold is also indoors.

Their blood gets thick and circulation slows which is a big problem for the elderly.

Because blood vessels tend to constrict when it’s cold, leading to heart attacks or stroke.

Hmm, thin Tee-shirt, then a shirt (undone) and sleeves rolled up. Thin jeans and that me sorted for this weather in Taipei. No coat, no scarf, no hat. I only switched from shorts to jean this week because of the cold snap. Every one else here in the office is wearing 3-5 layers - I don’t know how they can do that - it’s not that cold at all.

It’s very rare that it’s cold enough for me to see my breath unless it’s extremely wet like in danshui.

It doesn’t get cold here, and cold like this is maybe a week, and we’ll have 2 more weeks of bright and warm weather.

We have one of those too. Vaccinations, free smoke alarms, free condoms, (I made the last one up), blasted into your ear drums North Korea style. You cannot escape it when it is on. One night, there was an issue with a noisy neighbour escalated by someone to the 里長. Solution: 里長 got on the PA to tell him to shut it, in a suitably roundabout local manner of course.

Butlin’s holiday camp. You can check in but you can’t check out!

Sanzhi RF Temperature last night was -5C. In Tamsui, yesterday the ambient temperature was around 8C. It was miserable. I didn’t note the RF. But it wouldn’t be more than 3 or 4c.

What’s RF?

I seriously doubt it’s -5 C because stuff should be freezing if even felt temp got that cold. It should be more like 3 or 4 C which feels quite cold (that’s refrigerator temperature) but not quite enough to freeze anything.

I know Texas sometimes gets down to around 25 F and with wind chill at that. That was quite cold. Taiwan never gets that cold.

radio frequency :+1:

Real Feel or otherwise know as wind chill, it has no scientific relevance.

But wait, you may be tempted to say. What about wind chill? Doesn’t that count in determining how cold it really gets in Winnipeg every winter?

The short answer is no. The longer answer is not on your life.

And the complete answer is many meteorologists have no use whatsoever for wind chill, a scientific measure of diddly and squat.

well there are 71km/hr gusts where I am right now (ok, my fault for heading over by the ocean…), so I don’t care if wind chills aren’t scientific. It’s really effing cold outside and I grew up in the Midwest.

How to deal with a chilly evening in Taipei? I am now sipping on some delicious chai from the chai master at Namaste Taiwan in the Shida Night Market. That’s how I am keeping warm!
