The original question was how can conspiracy theories be harmful so I provided examples. As for the forum, I have seen people question legitimate science and post fake science from irreputable sources. That can certainly cause harm.
Again, I am not arguing for censorship. I have said this many times.
I suppose rational is subjective.
There seems to be a trend nowadays of being contrarian for the sake of being contrarian. This leads to those long threads of having to re-explain points and constant nitpicking to try and find some hole in your argument, but generally ignoring the main point.
One man’s garbage is another man’s treasure. That’s for the reader to decide. Not you are anyone else. FtLoG, your position is always that your position is irrefutable truth and never just differing opinion, which it usually is IMO. Just live and let live instead of crying about it.
I’ll bet you have met Trump supporters in real life, they just don’t say that they are. Also, I was a never Trumper, didn’t want him to win in 2016, and won’t vote for him in 2020. Yet, on this site I’m branded as a Trump supporter and extremist. I think that many people here come from places where they are not used to being exposed to conflicting voices and are surprised to see so many moderates, libertarians, conservatives, and free thinkers who don’t see the world as they do. They get frustrated in having their core beliefs and assumptions challenged and lump that group together as right wing crazies.
To be fair, many Americans here believe their views to be moderate when they are extreme to people from other countries. For example, Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden are Democrats in the US but align very closely with the Conservative Party Of Canada. They are moderate to right leaning. someone like Ted Cruz is unthinkable in Canadian politics, even though he’s Canadian, as his politics are so extreme. it’s not that we’re insulating ourselves, rather I think Americans that post here need to open up and consider how their views compare with those living in other countries
Yeah nah. Trump is a cretin. I don’t see how anyone can support him. It’s not the politics. It’s the lying. It’s the nastiness. It’s the small mindedness. It’s the stupidity. But mostly, it’s the hair.
More people should simply have PM threads in which they mock and deride the posters they consider morons rather than consistently engage in circular arguments with said morons for all to see.
