In news cruises around the island are now available for your summer pleasure.
Hitting those heady and perennial jetsetting favorite destinationS Matsu and Kinmen. 
I don’t get this, fly around Taiwan, eat a microwaved meal in narrow seats and pay a lot of money for it. Must be a Taiwanese thing, I doubt this would “fly” in other countries.
For the fb and instagram pictures? Bragging rights? I don’t get it either.
In fairness, I feel like this is the motive for almost everything by those under the age of 25 these days, and a lot of those over. And I don’t get it either. The number of times my students have recommended a restaurant by saying something like “The food is dull, but it’s great for pictures!” … sigh. I’m old.
Coworker is in Penghu. It looks like Xinyi for New Year kind of crowds. Like, after the fireworks wave to the MRT.
It’s probably nice on some of the beaches. They have a lot of space there usually.
I really need to do the first 2.
Already did Yushan and Xueshan, but there are so many peaks to hike still.
Also visited Smangus, but never did the over the hill hike over to Fushan.
Still plenty to do. I also want to hike to Jiaminghu. The water level should have replenished after the last typhoon.
I just spent a few days there and apart from the post fireworks dispersal it really doesn’t feel crowded at all.
We stayed in a BnB near the bottom of the main island and it’s especially quiet down there if anyone is looking for a peaceful getaway. A few rooms have “mini pools” on the balconies and it’s so nice to sit in the shade, drink a few beers and stare out at the blue ocean.

Next time I’ll opt to live on Shanshui beach though as a I usually enjoy a bit more 熱鬧 and restaurant/bar options.

I went to Matsu again last weekend, my fourth time there. Spent one day on Beigan and Daqiu, half a day on Xiju, and the rest of the time on Nangan. There were slightly more people than before but not crowded really. Once you hop on a scooter and explore areas other than the ports and convenience stores, you’ll feel like you’re all alone.

Do you have any recommendation(s) for a place to stay?

Well, I’m a single traveler whose style of travel might be different from yours. I usually just need a place to sleep and shower. My basic requirements for a room are: My own bathroom, comfortable bed, a/c, and clean. Anything else is gravy for me.
That being said, here are four places I’ve stayed that fit the bill above, and moreso:

- Angel’s Home B&B (Nagan)
- 芽哦小窩Ya OH Rooms (Nangan)
The two on Beigan are definitely nicer.
