If China invades Taiwan, should the US intervene militarily?

If anybody has ever paid attention to China, they like to stir shit up in the initial few weeks of the administration of every new President simply to find out what they do. Trump, with Mattis and Bolton and Bannon by his side, was obviously an exception and it’s possible that Biden is so predictable they won’t feel the need to do so but it would be unusual if they simply did nothing.

That old troll once said that with all the local issues the marines were having in Okinawa, they should just relocate them to Taiwan.
it was a few years ago when he was still with Trump. Global times really had their knickers in a twist over that.

Yeah. I don’t think that Trump had a firm opinion on China nor knew anything about Taiwan when he took office but Bannon and Bolton were among the biggest anti-China hawks to ever have influence in the WH and probably influenced policy more than we believe.

I have very little faith in Taiwans military or their stomach for a real fight. Or even the populations stomach for a fight if a missile offensive takes place.

Like that has stopped the Chinese from building them

Deepwater ports and artificial harbours can be made.

China only needs to fire their barrage or missiles.

When I said “attack”, I did not mean specifically Normandy. I meant any kinetic warfare, including deliberately missing targets, but enough to provide an event for Hunter Biden’s Dad to make a political statement,

a US-China Joint Communique perhaps?

Yes studies huh. Why not take a look at Hunter Biden’s laptop and his own monologue recorded in his own voice: “ …my business partner, the buggiest F-cking spy chief of China…”

That’s ok. The US & Japan will respond in full force. (not ok for us, tho…hell, I’m next to a naval base, marine base and a national transport hub)

If you’re America, would you prefer to fight on your soil, or someone else’s, ditto for Japan. Should China attack, war’s inevitable. Big war.

No, US will respond in a US-China joint Communique. All previous assumptions that a Chinese attack on Taiwan automatically triggers US a counterstrike are invalidated by Biden, Hunter’s Dad.

If it were Bernie In the white house, then conventional wisdom may still hold.

However, with Biden, it’s a done deal.

There’s a bipartisan consensus against China right now. Things have changed.

I’m pretty sure Hunter Biden is of no significance as he holds no political posts.

Also, Trump has loans owed to China through his business interests. I’m sure he is more of a risk than anyone right now.

Oh how sweet. But that’s not how politics work in real world, honey.

Your language and tone is very similar to another poster who likes to respond tersely. :joy:

I choose not to take a cynical black and white view of the world  it’s healthier.

I think that’s too simple an analysis.

The family, friends and associates of powerful Democrats and Republicans selling their connections and access is a huge problem. It’s corruption, American-style. And it has been going on for years.

It’s not an accident that countries and regimes that violate human rights have been able to continue their evil deeds while the US (and Western allies) turn a blind eye (or in some cases even provide direct or indirect support). It’s amazing how people can rationalize and accept evil when they and the people they are most closely associated with benefit from it.

Does Hunter’s shady dealings in China mean that Joe is going to let China take over the South China Sea, or invade Taiwan, without objection? Of course not. But too many people have gotten way too rich for these relationships not to have any impact on their ability to see things objectively and identify the interests of the US and its citizens.

Just look at Biden’s picks for secretary of defense and CIA director. Neither has China experience and Biden has been disturbingly silent on China and the Indo-Pacific. I wouldn’t claim that he’s bought and paid for by the CCP, but is it possible that his family’s business dealings in China have in some way influenced his world view? I think so. Hell, Joe took Hunter with him on Air Force 2 on his 2013 trip to China.

I love how you can’t tell what is under-table, back-door corruption.
But your conscience is completely different from you though.

Your conscience tells you Hunter suffers from sex and drug addictions and the reason that the Chinese Communists paid him to sustain his habits was, in exchange, his Dad Joe Biden would help out China politically. The compact has been formed. Money has been exchanged between them and an oath of allegiance to each other was implied.

This fact in the coming years will seal the fate of Taiwan. If Taiwan miraculously survives, it will only be because of good fortunate.

There’s no truth to any of these conspiracies.

Suppose they are true, Hunter Biden is a grown ass man. In this day and age, personal transgressions such as making statements about grabbing a co-worker’s private parts, or paying off a porn star to keep quiet about one’s extramarital affairs, or being sued by a dozen women for sexual assaults, don’t seem to hurt politicians anymore. Why would Joe Biden need to oblige to anything to cover up what his son does?

Typically speaking, financially illegality and evidence of criminality are enough to blackmail a politician like Biden. This is basic trade craft in espionage.

The key thing you forgot is, Biden actually genuinely loves China, and he needs no blackmailing.

Especially that the Chinese so strongly value his beloved son Hunter that they are willing to give him billions in joint venture for nothing, it only made Biden feeling all the more in debt to the Chinese. Joe Biden knows there will not be any political force other than the Chinese Communists that would treat his son with the same dignity.

Think about it. If Joe doesn’t love his son, why would he fly him together on Air Force 2 to China?

They don’t even need blackmail. It’s about using “business” relationships to influence how powerful people perceive you.

I strongly suspect, based on his statements and actions, that Biden does not recognize that the CCP is the biggest threat to the US and the world in the 21st century.
