If you like BlandoPop, shitty oldie songs, classical music, debates in Taiwanese, cheesy American pop songs, then a FM radio is useful, otherwise I wouldnt miss the radio if my mp3 player didnt have it…

I should have my nano this weekend or monday. A co-worker just picked it up for me in Singapore.
have you see the photos on Flickr? The thing is tiny!

I now have a majority lyrics in my songs thanks to pearLyrics. Sing that iTunes does the same thing, even with Chinese and Japanese.
my green barely used 6g green mini is on yahoo bids for anyone interested.
iPod nano is crap. The display stops working after you drive over it a couple of times. It can’t even withstand a 40 foot drop on concrete.

What’ya go for, Gary? The black oe white?

I will miss my green mini. I just love green. Should I keep it? Hmm. I already have a 15g 3g iPod, a shuffle, and the mini. Would be shame to break up the family. I will have to get a new iPod when I want to start copying photos to it, if I ever get that DSLR.

haha
ah yes. The Ars Technica guys are really great.
btw, the ilounge.com forums have great stuff about the nano. Very informative. And the site has news about already announced accessories.
I hear in the Taiwanese newspapers they say the nano will be here next week.
yep, the apple guys in guanghua said the same thing
Ok. Gary. Where are you located? I swear I just want to mug ahem no meet you and see that lovely nano
I’ll see if I have it today. A co-worker is coming back. He wentto one store where they reserved it and they sold it cuz he was a bit late in the day. He said he’d try some other stores. I’ll know soon.
I was at the dunhua AppleUser and dunhua eslite; employees there both have some.

l really wish apple would make ipods with fm radio. l’ll hold onto my shuffle until that happens …
if ever
… an FM radio would be freakin useless in Taiwan.
And besides the beauty of the ipod is that it has no radio. Who wants a radio when I have 1000’s of songs I know I will like, 24-7.
Actually l always liked taking my fm radio to the footy each weekend. Just forward thinking, mate

If you really want the FM radio, check out the Cowon iaudio x5. It’s the same size as the ipod but has a lot more features. People also claim it sounds as good as if not better than the ipod. If you get the x5l, the battery has been rated for around 35 hours on one charge.
Unfortunately, I havent been able to find it in Taiwan yet (at least not last month when I was in Taipei looking for it). If I can’t find it soon I may have to break down and buy the ipod but I would much prefer the Cowon.
Isn’t this just Shuffle with a screen? When the Shuffle came out the cynics were saying that it was just a feature-free, screenless version of a much better version that Apple would hold onto until six months down the road in order to milk its virtual monopoly. I’m starting to think that they were right.
Surely now Apple can reduce the size of its 60 gig iPod to the size of an iPod mini. I’d rather get that than the nano. The mini is still very small. I don’t think that will happen until nano fever has died down.

Apple can’t quite shrink the 60 gig to the size of a mini. Sure they could but they’d have to sell it for $3000+ US. Flash memory is expensive. Someday magnetic media will go away thank god. We could do it now; there are companies that sell flash HDs for people that can afford them.
Flash and HD based players are still distinct segments. I think Apple is among the first to introduce a 4 gig flash model, the nano. They got a good deal on memory prices so they could pull it off.
I’m talking about shrinking the 60gig version to the size of the mini, not a nano.
exactly. ![]()
HDs any bigger than 6 or 8 gigs are only currently available in 1.8"; that’s the normal iPod size.
Perpendicular HDs are coming soon. Triple the density. So maybe we could have a 20 gig mini sized iPod next year. We’ll see what the limit is of perpendicular.
If we’re talking flash, I’m not sure what the size is. Samsung says they double flash density every year. Does the same storage in flash take up less space than magnetic hard drives? not sure.
Through the grapevine I hear they have nanos at Nova. 1st floor or something like that, not quite at the Apple Centre. Maybe imported? I’m tempted to take a taxi there this minute.
If anyone’s close by, any word on 4 gig whites?
If was in at the Jinhua store today getting my screen replaced (an ant crawled behind my screen and decided to die there!!!) and I was fiddling around with their nano demo. Anyway, they told my they’d be here this week. Price - 2GB 6900, 4GB 8900.
I was just at nova. One place on the 2nd floor has some 2 gigs from Japan. 7500.
