I rather have my healthcare in Taiwan, because at least it’s affordable. I doubt the average migrant worker even have health insurance, as that’s the whole point of hiring them illegally so they don’t have to provide one.
And schooling in the US is largely dumbed down, so it’s not like you’d learn much of anything in those schools.
So do those migrant worker go to free clinics to see a doctor? Or where? Or can they afford the 2-300 dollar per visit costs to see them?
If I were choosing to immigrate illegally it would not be to the US because healthcare is unaffordable, especially for someone who wants to immigrate illegally.
The construction, roofing, painting, landscaping, and restaurant industries on the West Coast would come to a screeching halt if DIY immigration from Latin America was curtailed.
Is America in decline? Historically, when a country loses control of its borders, its finances, its cities, and its societal common ground it’s not long for the dustbin of history.
Not just the West Coast. It really is a flawed-but-functional symbiotic relationship.
Leroy is too stupid and brainwashed to know it, but he has more expendable income each month because of Pablo’s cheap, dependable labor. Pablo can be exploited in the US no doubt, but he can also make a decent amount working under the table to provide a nice life for himself and his family back in his home country thanks to a strong dollar.
If illegal immigrants all vanished from the US tomorrow, multiple industries would go tits up. The blue collar US citizens that are dependable, willing to work hard for little $$$, and not drug-dependent are simply too few in number to keep the trains of many backbone industries running on time.
Is any of this ideal? No, but it’s the current reality. Republicans know it, but they don’t care - they know anti-immigrant rhetoric is a surefire, tried-and-true method to get the white trash going and distracted from their own pockets being looted
The result being that legal immigration is increasingly difficult, with relatively few quotas for a massive number of needs/applications. So if you think about it it’s actually easier/cheaper to just immigrate illegally rather than do it the right way. Given how easy it is to lose your legal immigration status, it might actually be about the same, or less risk to just immigrate illegally.
Especially for some people, like those with ANY stains on their record at all, lifestyle choices, country of origin, etc. immigrating illegally is pretty much the only option.
Both Biden and Trump campaigns have used American decline and turning it around as a talking point
Factually US economy is performing great. US accounted for 1/4 of the world GDP in 1990 and that percentage is about the same now, despite the rise of China and other emerging economies
US does well in most key metrics such as innovation, education levels, patents etc
US has done poorly in terms of dealing with inequality and those at the bottom half of the spectrum. Life expectancy etc
