Cool, that the aeroplane has the Italian flag out the front windshield. Meloni looks very fashionable.

Japan does business with China. Canada could have been doing more business with China but was working with our former ally the US on things like tariffs and sanctions. The Meng Wanzhou arrest for example was done to satisfy the US who ultimately turned their back on it. With the new Dumpster tariffs and threats Canada has little choice but to look for other markets. Japan sells to China, Canada can as well.

Edit: I asked ChatGPT for some numbers, hope the text table fits…

2024 BILATERAL GOODS TRADE (USD BILLIONS)

Reporter | Partner | Exports | Imports | Total Trade | Trade Balance
---------±--------±--------±--------±------------±--------------
Canada | Italy | 2.32 | 8.79 | 11.11 | -6.47
Canada | China | 21.11 | 62.62 | 83.73 | -41.51
Japan | Italy | 5.05 | 12.18 | 17.23 | -7.13
Japan | China |124.63 |167.12 | 291.75 | -42.49

Looks like Japan does more business with China than Canada does to the tune of 100 billion USD. Wow.

Looks like just a framework of a plan. Not going to juice Canada’s economy any time soon, might give some leverage in NAFTA renegotiation

Japan’s position as 10x the Chinese trading partner remains secure

To me most of the trade disruption started when Trump pulled out of the Trans Pacific Partnership. Some referred to that agreement as the “screw China” pact as was arranged specifically to not include China. The signees really took a chance to not anger China by signing this with U.S. Then the U.S. screwed them and pulled out of the agreement. China then took advantage and created the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership which included countries dumped by U.S. and others. That was the largest trade pact ever developed…which was amazing as did not include the largest economy in the world…the U.S. Some then deemed this pact to be the “screw the U.S.” pact. Since then countries have been very leery to deal with U.S. And now with the tariff methodology by Trump….by that I mean random and ever changing…countries are naturally orientating themselves toward China even more. I predict this will not change in future. Nations need to trade with the U.S. to survive but they will put more effort into diversification away from the U.S.

The Dump base saw the TPP not as a response to China, but as a Clinton orchestrated conspiracy against the US. trump himself is a terrible negotiator without concepts of international affairs, and has proven more adept at destroying things than building them. Remember, this is a man who bankrupted casinos. Not a casino, casinos.

Once again, if he isn’t an agent of Russia, I’m not sure how he could more act the part.

In his first term he called NAFTA the worst trade agreement ever. So he revised and changed the name to USMCA. In Feb 2025 Trump asked “Who would ever sign a thing like this?”…referring to his own USMCA. Now he is saying the agreement (which needs to be resigned every 6 years) is irrelevant.

Trump and the U.S. is wasting one of the biggest opportunities ever to build up a huge manufacturing base in North America. Is big now but Trump is tearing it apart. If the U.S. expanded the southern border/northern Mexico border region to include the very eager workers from South America than no one could compete. Even China recognizes Mexico manufacturing potential for their future….and are rapidly expanding there. American never had it so good with two very willing and capable partners in Canada and Mexico. Where else could such a strong linkage create such a trading bloc as that?

When I visited my old company’s facility in Mexico I also visited the El Paso Texas business group who loved all the investment into Mexico. The spillover benefits were great for El Paso. There is so much, much more that could be done.

My point being Japan stands up for Taiwan over trade (and so far has not backed down, with election coming soon)

meanwhile, posts like this is Canada not supporting Taiwan

Your point was obvious, my response was in my first post

In short, if we are to measure support for Taiwan by trade with China, Canada supports Taiwan a lot more. Also, Taiwan does more trade with China than Canada, so that would mean Canada supports Taiwan more than Taiwan does!

I watched the video to the point where he said this isn’t about Taiwan and China, because yeah

Good job, Meloni!

Trade is important, as I’ve seen for myself during my recent stopover in Hong Kong from Europe. However, Japan’s stance towards Taiwan hinders trade, and China’s flighting back Japan also hurts trade but they stand by higher goals.

10x as much trade with China, compared to Canada, tho…

so? why does Canada need more trade, is not ok now? New deal is not good for Ontario (Canada not US-ONT), but good for another part of Canada? Seems not big benefit except for rape seed farmers

I don’t know if you follow the news, but the american president has declared a trade war on the entire world. Canada is a country of the world.

Also, if you look at a map of Canada, that big thing right beside it is america, which had been the main trade partner of Canada. Because of tariffs Canadian producers are making less money and some are going out of business. Producers need new markets for products.

China is a very large market. Countries like Japan make a lot of money there. For years Canada has taken the higher position, but now Canada needs to be more like Japan because it can’t trust america

It isn’t good for auto workers who form a large political block in Ontario, they vote and donate. Resource exporters in Ontario will do well. Resources and agriculture, which China needs, are what is on the table right now. I also read that some advanced areas are under discussion, such as nuclear reactor technology. Medical and aerospace technology is probably also something China wants but hopefully the Canadians are careful with IP.

Canada is much larger than just Ontario. Can’t make everyone happy all the time.

Cucknada.

Hey, at least Canada isn’t ruled by a convicted fraud and probably pedophile.

Better to be a nation of cucks than child molesters, IMO

Nothing is worse being a cuck to China sorry.

If you think sex trafficking of minors is better than business with China, you must be a Trump supporter.

But if doing more business with China means being more of a cuck to China, guess which country does the most business with China? Hint, it isn’t Canada.

I’m glad Carney isn’t just taking whatever Dumpy wants to give. I can understand americans are butt hurt by this, but they should read the writing in the wall. The child in the White House doesn’t run the world, nations have options.

I’m no trump supporter, but acting like doing business with China over America = a win is just wrong. All it equals is being cucked. I’ve heard Cucknadas president is pretty pro authoritarianism too so this cucked move comes as expected.
