All Carney had to do was look tough for Canadians saying the right things. And quietly just agree to some framework with the US and iron out the details later. Trump has 2.5 years left. Time was on his side. This is exactly what the EU and UK did. Most of what they do is political theatre.
China is a different beast and Xi is going to be there for a long long time and I doubt who follows will be any more friendly.

Anyways, as I have pointed out, Taiwan, Japan, and america each do more business with China than Canada. So Canada is willing to do a little more business than previously, it’s not like they have signed a free trade and mutual defense agreement.

Greenland is going to come out a winner from all of this. They will get way more support from Denmark now. They don’t need to do anything really and just see what all the interested parties want to offer. Denmark can’t allow Greenland to consider independence.

That’s the hard part. It’s far more difficult to decouple after you built a reliance. Taiwan I think lowered trade towards China by double digit figures in a decade or some under Tsai.
Canada is literally late this this cycle.
it’s not about absolute trade. It’s that countries that increase trade with China are regretting it.
You seem confident Carney is smart enough to make the same mistakes as every country that already went through this same cycle. So we will see. No need to debate anymore.

What korea and Japan are doing is not what Canada is doing. They know they can’t go head to head with the US. They had a photo op. But still wanting to do more trade with the US
