Interesting. I guess I’ve been fortunate to avoid rotten meat. Even raw beef isn’t “slimy” in any way, in my experience, so I still don’t know wtf he’s talking about, unless he’s saying his burger was rotten AND raw.
I will let him answer his experience, i was just joking about it because dry is WAY better than slimy when it comes to mammal carcases. But i can absolutely confirm dead meat (animals) get attacked by bacteria and the meat gets a slimy surface after a short period (day or so). This is why ground beef, normally speaking, is always well done because it has been ground up and exposed to a very large surface area (which equals contamination risks). In contrast a steak, which is a solid piece of meat, has all its inner cells intact, and we can get away with grilling the outside and leaving the inside less cooked. Same with dry aged, now one eats the outside. Maybe some do, but i sure wouldnt.
I dont eat meat anymore, but ANYTHING ground that isnt well cooked, i would avoid. Just as a general rule. Fish/squid/mushroom balls, chicken nuggest, hot dogs, burgers etc. Its alwlso why so many preaervatoves are used in processed foods.
Freshness, species etc make more variables like OCD japanese serving sushi and raw beef etc. But i have seen too many food processing plants to trust it. If it is raw mammal or bird, i want to be there when it was killed, and be swallowing within 30 minutes of said killing haha.
Overprocessed, freezerburned, poorly cooked: I think this is what happened. I don’t think it was rotten, though I do believe I have been blessed with the experiences that give one a strong constitution.
I’m saying the inside of the burger was slimy. If you can’t process this, for whatever reason, I suggest you just move on with your life.
Shout out to @Serg who is a champion poster in this thread, with a valued contribution which is tonight’s new entry. Getting difficult to keep a numbered list as I explore more and more local burgeries, so I shall revise into categories.
Reigning champ new Webberger: Wow. Fresh, juicy, tasty. I had the double cheese, which seemed to be a simple meat and cheese burger. So good. Best fries I’ve had in K-town, hot and fresh. Bonus coleslaw was delicious. Every table was taken, the music was great.
Contenders
Murk Bar: Had a great late-night burger there. It could be because I was hungry, or because my expectations were low, but man it was delicious.
Bottoms Up: That’s a tasty burger. Nice place, was quite busy. The fresh side salad in addition to the fries was definitely nice to see.
Beast: Blue cheese burger was pretty good; a bit dry but at least it was cooked through for a change. Nice place, I will go back.
There are other things on the menu, but the burger is decent if that’s your hankering
Arkansas Diner: I have burgered there twice, so far a consistently good sandwich. Service is great, atmosphere not my style.
Lighthouse: Good sandwich, my kinda place, service was good. I got onion-rings for a change and there were a paltry 6 on the plate. Had a second burger on another visit which was closer to mediocre. This has become my favourite place to grab a beer.
Better off going to McDonalds or Burger King, if you know your burgers at all
Smokey Joes: The meat tasted off, and they said the slow service was due to cooking fresh fries but the fries were cold. Cool building, though.
Foster Hewitt’s: First visit was dry and tasteless burger that benefitted from mayo and tobasco. I went back a second time to give them another chance and try the poutine. As a Canadian, I found the poutine offensive (details available on request); the burger was undercooked and not just pink but slimy on the inside (still tasteless); I was overcharged based on the menu prices (30NT so not worth the hassle), and will probably never go back.
Still have Legends, The Plus Star, Oxford, and B3F|MMB - 漢神百貨 to try out.
How does a burger get slimy? Rotten meat, as the other poster suggested? The reason we can’t “process” your claim is that it doesn’t make sense. Freezer burned or improperly cooked (which tends to mean overcooked with beef) doesn’t explain it. “Processed”? With what, snot? Nothing about beef is slimy.
No problem, be sure to check out their onion rings if you do hit them up! Fries are OK, soup is very hit and miss so I wouldn’t bother with the set meal option, burger and onion rings!
@tianmu@tt i would love to treat you both to a Good Morning breakfast chain burger. All the sides and drinks you want. Free, just let me and a friend sit across from you guys with a bottle of whiskey and order random things to your table.
No, definately not that place. im forgetting the name. Orange color, egg design. everywhere. Beautiful morning? Danggit. Anyway, no mcdonalds. I want to watch you guys argue about what slimy meat is, so it has to be a dive. More importantly, FEEL what slimy meat is after a couple hours…the one you posted looks decent.

new The Plus Star: Fast and friendly service, outdoor seating, and a totally acceptable burger with fries. I wouldn’t go out of my way for it, but pretty good nonetheless.

Honorable mention new Yaletown: While not technically a real burger (like, for example, McDonalds would serve), this beef-based sandwich was amazeballs. Not only was the smoked meat done by the owner, they bake their own bread as well. The people at Foster Hewitt’s should go there to find out what poutine is. Shoutout to @Explant for the helpful suggestion!

These will be worth a second visit to see if they move up or down:

new–> Tec Burger: This was a nice experience. Decent burger, friendly staff. I liked sitting outside on a nice day, in an alley just off a not-so-busy street. It was difficult to decide if I should put it with the contenders for a second shot or start a new category. Definitely a step above the places listed below.

new–> Oxford: While the patty itself was not bad, the overall burger was tasteless. The only parts of the bun with flavour and texture were the burnt bits. The fries were cheap and from frozen, perhaps they’d been in the freezer too long. The place felt like I was hanging out in someone’s basement.
