Life on the Buses 2020+

Actually I want to contact the bus company and report the issue. The guy didn’t even try to tell me.

Buses can’t provide change. This has always been the case.

Yea the fare box can’t provide change as being able to provide change would have added weight which would use up fuel, and also the bus can’t go back to the garage for probably quite a while, means once the change runs out, it runs out and there’s no way for a fare box of sufficient complexity to give change. If only they can put the incoming change in the same box that outgoing change is held, but that would add complexity which means additional weight that costs fuel to move.

And bus drivers aren’t cashier meaning they are not expected to just give change. Their job is to drive the bus and I’d prefer that they stick to that job.

Next time get one of those Supercard easy card where you can top it up using your phone or something.

One can tie any Easy Card to top up from bank account when empty.

Another thing is your easy card will still pass the scan even if it’s empty. The only time it won’t is if it’s negative. So if you only got 3nt on the easy card it should still work.

Easy cards can’t automatically top themselves up on busses. I have a combined credit card one and get busses much more than the MRT. It means I need to pop into a convenience store and buy beer on it periodically.

We’re talking about charging 7 times the fare. He could have tried to tell me instead of rushing me.

He didn’t charge you 7 times the fare, you put the money in. If everyone asked for change we’d get nowhere fast. Trust me, Manila and Bangkok suck for this.

Get your card in order before leaping onto a bus.

Any convenience store can help you out to add funds. No excuses!

Fare evade a few times now to square up the books?

Taichung BRT equipment at the bus stations on Taiwan Blvd. finally being dismantled after sitting unused for nearly a decade (2015-2023), from the very beginning to now.

What a joke.

Guy

Ay the very least the displays are getting upgraded finally.

Can see more information for more buses.

What’s the deal with BRT? They just wasted billions building all these stuff and bought buses? Why did they suddenly stop operating them?

Long story short the project was rushed to finish in time for local elections. In the end it wasn’t a true BRT system. Ended up becoming a dedicated bus lane and some regular city buses had their routes changed from using the outer part of Taiwan Blvd. to the inner section to use the bus platform so that buses wouldn’t be switching between thr outer and inner sections of Taiwan Blvd. so much. As a dedicated bus lane I find it pretty convenient and easy enough to catch a bus without worry since there are quite a lot of buses that run on Taiwan Blvd. They’ve continued to use the long buses the whole time.

All that’s being removed is some old equipment such as ticket gates on the platform that were never used from the beginning and some card reading equipment. This stuff sat there unused and unmaintained (no use for it so no reason to work on it) for almost 10 years so it’s finally being removed and the bus station platforms will have new displays providing more information for the buses and routes.

What the hell were they thinking to have turnstiles/ticket gates?? It’s not a freaking MRT. They should have just have bus platforms for various buses and forget trying to make it look like MRT.

Because it would’ve essentially acted like an MRT on the road. So scanning at the platform would be easier and quicker since there was only 1 route. But as that plan was abandoned and changed to a dedicated bus lane it was no longer needed.

Also downtown area near train station was changed a few times to accomdate the BRT plans/elongated bus until we go the current design with multiple bus platforms under the Taichung main station which is pretty convenient

The original design involved traffic lights giving priority to the BRT. So it would effectively have been the fastest way to get around.

This is a bad thing.

I think it’s a good thing.
How else could they provide real-time information?
