To be honest with you, I think the money could have been better spent elsewhere improving transit access.
I see way too many buses that are at 30-60 minute frequencies. And worse!

It seems the money is being used now to rip out seats and add annoying Singapore MRT style signage in the trains. I am not delighted by either development.

Ripping out the seats is a braindead choice.
They have too many people working in the MRT department, move some if them to the road department.
My fave so far during the Chiang / Hou era is the decision to remove perfectly useful poles to hang onto. Yes, on some trains they have removed the poles.

Went on the red line yesterday and saw the state of the seat vandalism.
They have been removed as if by random. No rhyme or reason to it, just missing seats all over the place.
I mean there is more room I guess. But more room for what? You wont be getting more people on, and less people will have a seat.
I dont get the logic. Makes me think of the busses here. The seating is similarly all over the place. Whearas compared to back home buses are basically just rows of seats.
These things are not that complicated.
I saw a new thing on the red line yesterday. They had not only taken out some of the seats, and that metal bar people can hold onto halfway between the doors in the ‘middle’ section of the cars, but they had also taken out the four grab handles near where that metal bar used to be. Anyone who wanted to stand in the ‘middle’ section of the cars had to reach all the way up and grab the metal bars running along on top, or the ceiling itself. I’m okay with the removal of the ‘middle’ metal bar itself, since so many selfish people used it as a personal leaning post, preventing anyone but themselves from using it, but I can see no logic whatsoever in removing those grab handles near it, making it harder for a country of not-especially-tall people to be able to support themselves on the train.
Standing commuters. Standing commuters take less space.

MRT trains can run 50 years aka San Francisco BART trains only completely replaced last year I think
Taiwan’s is kinda cool that we have so many different trains on TRA and MRT
Including the worlds last surviving MATRA train on the brown line

They probably try to rotate the trains as I think the red line may be the longest in length ?Not sure
I think the Siemens trains sound the best wonder what the Rotem trains sound like
In SF we have finally gotten all new BART trains and they sound similar but not as iconic as the old BART trains
But our all newly replaced streetcars are all made by Siemens and they have that Taipei MRT Siemens train sound

I recall exactly the same vibe on the MRT when the orange line was extended into Sanchong / Xinzhuang / Luzhou. It settled down shortly afterwards, as the many folks in that part of Xinbei using the MRT for the first time learned the ropes and the etiquitte on the system.

I am a Kawasaki man, myself. Better air flow, and better able to handle the humidity here.
The red line will be expanding a grand total of one (1) station to a new terminus east of Xinyi. It was challenging as heck to do the digging to get there, it was not easy, but it’s not like this is a major extension to the line. And yes it seems the new Korea sourced trains will be deployed on the red line.

The KWACS. (Kawasaki) are cool no complaints but the Siemens have a better song and our new street cars in SF are Siemens too and sing the company song
DORTS bought a lot more KWACS than Siemens so the KWACS must be a better deal

Correct! Some of the oldest rolling stock on the red line have plaques indicating that the place of manufacture was Yonkers, NY.
