Losing a Job Because of COVID-19?

I don’t have a full time job but some of my work has canceled or delayed indefinitely because of COVID. I actually did get the 10,000 assistance from the government as a result.

People did.

Quite a number of people lost jobs. Many have had severely reduced incomes.
However it’s mostly in tourism related industries.
I drove the highway today never saw as many trucks,
service stations were packed the economy is doing quite well overall I guess. Hotels are often booked out now for summer. It’s remarkable.

After going through a year of the COVID-19 pandemic, I was successful in getting a job offered to me elsewhere in Taiwan last summer, and I like this job better than the previous one. Unfortunately I was unable to go to Canada for Chinese New Year 2021.
The case numbers in Taiwan has never exceeded 1,000 since the past year, and only 9 people have died. So I am not worried about job loss unless they do not extend my contract. Nevertheless, I would rather renew my contract here in Taiwan than to go back to Canada with its ridiculous travel restrictions.
