Macau

I’m having a hard time finding any airlines besides airmacau that fly there… also, do I really have to buy an exit ticket out of Taiwan if I want to apply for the 60-day visa?

Trans Asia and EVA both fly to Macau. Mandarin Airlines as well I think.

AND there’s a little place called Hong Kong which has lots of airlines and a ferry terminal - also look at Shenzhen, which is similar

Personally, and I admit to only going there once, but seriously, why the F you wanna go there, it’s a shithole. Truly. Unless it’s a gambling trip.

You need to show one at the consular office, IIRC. Do you have an open return ticket to your home country? If not, you’ll probably need to buy a cheap ticket to HK as “proof”. Make sure it’s one that’s easily refundable for when you come to cancel it.

I was thinking I’d just say ‘well of course I haven’t bought a ticket yet, I had no way of knowing if you’d approve this application first!’ Bad idea?

Yes. Very Bad.

I had a BLAST the last time I was in Macau. One of the best trips I’ve taken in my life. I always recommend Macau for visa runs (assuming that’s what the OP is doing) Air Macau is cheap, with tons of daily flights. But I guess it’s more of a young person thing TT

Sad but true, also I wasn’t single, and there’s fuckall to do there except in the casino, its a rundown town man

I will say that some of the so called “clubs” nestled in the middle of a casino floor are pretty lame. But we were somehow able to find some really great clubs so the nightlife I experienced was great. Of course, if you’re looking for sightseeing, after the two hours it takes to walk around the entire peninsula, you’ll be pretty damn bored.

I want to go to Macau, see what it’s like.

:roflmao:

Are you for real? They’ll just deny you any visa if you say that.

Do you have a job? Take all the school paperwork, with the proper chops. Health form, bank statement, academic credentials. If they ask you whether you went to Taiwan to look for a job, say no, you were visiting friends and someone offered you an opportunity too good to turn down.

If you don’t have a job, take proof of funds, and ticket out of Taiwan, make up some crap about wanting to see the sights of Taiwan, for longer (don’t overdo it; they have been known to disbelieve foreigners who insist there is 60 more days’ worth of fun to be had in Taiwan.

Don’t dress like some skint 20-something Yanko-Canadian scumbag who is planning to hitch his barbarian wagon to the noble horse of the republic in order to escape a life in fast food servery and to impregnate the local wimmins with your inferior, ahem, culture.

Be deferent, daffy foreigner, who is eager to demonstrate his worthiness.

You’ll probably still only get 30 days, though.

Why Macau, as a matter of interest? You’ll be cutting it very fine to fast track it with just an overnight stay, with the ferry from HK.

Well, it’s not like Hong Kong is exactly a bastion of natural beauty, either : P Plus, i’m pretty low on money so I figured heading somewhere with casinos was the smart thing to do

I dont gamble AT ALL anymore. Because as they say, Casinos are not built on the backs of winners !!

I went to vegas last year and gambled not one dime.

Spent all me money on shows, food, lodging, drinks, but not a penny on gambling.

Ok, any suggestions on what airline to buy my fake ticket from, in terms of cancellation cost/policy? Do I buy the ticket, print out the itinerary, and cancel immediately, or do I need to keep it until after I go on the run because they might actually call the airline or something?

(Seriously, though, it does seem a little stupid that they would expect you to buy a ticket exiting in 60 days, when you haven’t even been given permission to be there at that time yet, doesn’t it?)

it’s not.

I haven’t been there since my visa running days. I’d like to see what they have done with the place.

Lots of nice hikes on Lantau. Sampan rides in Aberdeen. Lots of stuff not including gambling you can do in Honkers.

Macao, Leal Senado square is nice, in the old days Coloane was nice and rural too, however it would appear to have changed a fair bit since, IE they were ruining the best harbor vista in the world in 1995, wonder how it is now.

really, though. At least the part about can I buy, print, cancel.

I went to Macao in Feb and had an onward ticket (out of Taipei) booked in order to return to Taiwan. This caused some issues and phone calls while I was checking in, in Macao. Exact details of problem I don’t know. I would suggest taking it seriously though.

By the way… POTS of cash to be made in ESL in Macau, if you are qualified.
