Men's fashion in Taiwan

You do, indeed, come across as jealous. If you’re not attracting women here, for whatever reason, I can almost guarantee it’s not because you’re dressing too well.

lol, not speaking Mandarin is certainly part of it

I get dates tho

But just cause I didn’t mention also checking out the hot-ass girls who are by themselves or with good-looking dudes doesn’t mean I’m a sorry-sack jealous type. But girls with good looking dudes doesn’t puzzle me, so doesn’t warrant discussion

Have you seen the men in the UK? Haha

@Gain you like?

Kinda like being puzzled over androgynous Korean guys being with hot ladies

I actually think Londoners dress fine and I like the fact that there’s no dress code unlike in other global cities.

British women on a night out I found very confusing. There’s no other word to describe them other than they dressed like hookers. They really did and Idk why. Even 18 year-olds insisted on wearing scarily short and tight dresses, heels they could barely motion in, and horrifyingly thick makeup if there’s a club involved.

Ever been to NYC? That’s the global capital of schlubby dudes with hot women. This isn’t unique to Taiwan. Women care about things other than how we dress, and I for one am thankful for that.

You can find well dressed men in London for sure, but it’s pretty bad most places else.

And the women…yeah. I know what you mean, the style looks like street hookers to me.

with guys wearing shirts and pants five sizes too big, with a bowl haircut.
Why are these hot-ass women with men who dress like this? These dudes look so basic?

Because cool trumps all else, and these guys are embodiment of “cool in Taiwan in 2021.” The 90s are in again.

I kinda like it and hate it at the same time. The jeans are supremely awesome once again–what jeans should be=baggy and wide-legged and able to be dressed up or down easily. For all the rest of it, though? Shirts, etc? :frowning: I used to love shopping in Taipei, but now all I see are giant Mickey Mouse t-shirts and giant butt-bag step-in-suits with suspenders. Fugtastic

I have no idea what girl chooses here, as I suspect it has more to do with body composition (obesity is harshly shunned in Taiwan, and obesity means having a BMI of over 20!) than fashion sense.

But I notice a LOT of yoga pants, also for some reason guys likes to wear shorts, but have tight leggings under that. Why even wear shorts then?

As for hair style, I’m seeing a LOT more guys with those undercut with a small tail. No idea what it’s called. No idea how it became popular.

I find with fashion in Taiwan people are more followers than leaders. If some celebrity dressed a certain way, you can bet a large number of Taiwanese will follow it, regardless of how much sense it makes. In fact if you try to dress like something that isn’t done by a celebrity 5 minutes ago, you are a weirdo. But if some celebrity did it, then it’s acceptable. Celebrities seem to have so much freedom here, they can dictate style.

Only blue collar guys don’t give a fuck… they wear whatever makes them comfortable.

There is a special place in hell reserved for these people.

Is it near the special place in hell for people who get the your/you’re thing wrong? That’s far more annoying than man buns.

How would the OP define well dressed?
If you looked back say 100 years ago there were better dressed men in the west than today.

I suppose the obvious answer is “It’s not your culture.” I make no assumptions about nationality or gender.

What always gets me is the younger foreign guys, ALWAYS from Taipei, who dress like Giordano advertisements. Rockin’ that upturned polo shirt collar, man! I can tell your Taiwanese girlfriend dressed you this morning…

Maybe, just maybe, the women have selected the men based on the content of their character, not the cut of their clothes.

Hat tip to the late great MLK, Jr. for the helpful turn of phrase.

if we’re gonna bitch about Taiwanese fashion, I’d like to throw in men wearing flip flops.

Just don’t.

I especially hate it because 90% of people here have disgusting feet and toenails. I hate when I’ve got my head down reading on the MRT and a pair of hobbit feet in flip-flops with black crusty toenails enter my peripheral vision.

Seriously folks, young guys in Taiwan have become A LOT more careful with their style over the years (as they have throughout East Asia). They simply got swept up in the oversize craze, which is actually not an easy look to pull off. The balance of all the pieces needs to line up; it’s really hard to mix and match old styles and older pieces.

This trend has however inspired me to pull out some of my older Yohji Yamamoto pieces (his work, as some of you may know, is famously oversized) and try them out again. I don’t do this all the time, but when I do these pieces are quite fun to wear!
