How about this spot, anyone tried? They seem pretty focused on social media, often a red flag haha. I am a bit confused if they also have a shop in Taichung? Or just Daan. Lots of Google searches came up with them talking about Taichung.
Mixigan
Their own websites link to this brand is broken, but here is their site
It’s very easy, just insanely expensive. Most chain supermarkets have them. Expect to pay 50-100 a pop. Or buy pre-made sludge mixed with starch n stuff (eg. What Subway sells)which looks cheaper but is actually WAY more expensive.
Do they have a website somewhere? Google shows Instagram and tiktok, both of which I can’t view. Looking for their menu somewhere. Hoping they have a menu somewhere everyone can find it
Has this place been discussed? It’s notable as the first Mexican place in Taiwan to gain some form of Michelin recognition (Bib Gourmand signalling good value).
A fine-dining twist on a taqueria, Pang Taqueria (胖塔可利亞) delivers the Michelin-worthy Mexican cuisine Taiwan’s been hungering for.
This seems not the way in Taiwan. I met a guy complaining about how even foreigner-owned restaurants are pretty cha bu duo about being open and serving customers (leaning towards not serving)
I’ve been there once. Didn’t have the taco as I was hungry. Went for the chorizo burrito with guacamole. It was VERY GOOD! There are now three Mexican establishments in the Tonghua St. night market area: Masa, Nacho Mama, and Pang. I would put Pang at the top spot, followed by Nacho Mama (whose burger I still need to try), and Masa (which needs to regain its former glory).
Went once nearly a year go, and didn’t plan to go back. Tacos were good, but not remarkable or better than Twinkeyz or Fonda. Menu was small, and they were out of something I wanted to try, and had limited drink options (no Margarita as the reviewer in the article mentioned). I’d go again if I’m in the neighborhood and in the mood for tacos, but wouldn’t go out of my way for it.
I was thinking about giving it a try, but then I saw a Google review where a customer said the food doesn’t taste authentic, and the owner responded that they’re not trying to make authentic Mexican food. I guess I’ll have to keep waiting for the day I walk into a Mexican restaurant in Taiwan and am hit with the smell of real Mexican food. Right now, I can’t tell the difference between the smell of a pharmacy and these so-called Mexican restaurants.
I have sadly read some bad comments on the usual unreliable Google type review stations. But Charles is a pretty good guy as far as I can tell. He worked at Zea just before opening his restaraunt. They are also great people with fantastic quality food. So, he is well versed in proper ingredients at least. Albiet not strictly mexican perhaps. I haven’t been in a while, but Pang was pretty damn good when we went soon after he opened his own spot!
His Facebook posts put me off putting anything he touches in my mouth to be honest. He has pribably good aspirations, but poor marketing lol.
Pang is not a Michelin star. I don’t think his previous training spot, which is actually superior to most food, is either. Michelin means jack shit now a days. Maybe the French, English and italians can fight back on their marketing schemes.
But ya. Pang is fine. There are better. There are worse. Pang serves hundred dollar tacos. Not night market, not fancy food. Right there in the middle. Like what Masa once was before slipping a bit.
Either way, any place that takes an effort tobhave real ingredients (jalapeno, epazote, properly fermented corn tortilla (not wheat flour), habanero, tomatillo etc etc in a country whee this cuisine is largely unknown. Gets an extra 2 points in my opinion. All too often people go fusion to avoid bankruptcy. Understandable.
