Over the years I have extensively visited many Asian countries and I just love this part of the world. However, Taiwan has been on my bucket list to visit for some 20 years, but for various reasons, I just never made it there. Now, at age 69, I am coming to spend two weeks in Taipei to discover the history, culture and experience the local cuisine. I am a straight Kiwi (NZ) single male traveling alone on this occasion. Married most of my life but single since 2012.
I have booked a hotel in Sanchong for the entire duration of my stay - I donāt know whether that was wise or not - but I just decided to take my chances.
Arriving 26 November and departing 11 December, 2024.
Iām looking primarily to have a good look around the city in the short time I have there. I would like to find an English speaking guide to assist me in my time there. Preferably female 40 - 60 age range, but a male would be okay
Iād appreciate some help hereā¦
Where and how can I find a suitable person? How much should I expect to pay? I have booked a hotel with two beds if the guide would be willing to stay with me for the duration. Not looking for a stray relationship, but that would be a bonus with the right person.
Your help and advice would really be appreciated.
If anyone would like information visiting NZ, I would be happy to meet and discuss while I am there.
Thanks Tango. That seems logical. I have studied the map on my PC, but it is so different when you are actually there. Iāll be walking or taking public transport. Wonāt drive there. I still am keen to find a guide/companion.
Try Tinder, maybe a language exchange group on Facebook
Also, you may have read online that Taiwanese food is good and the people are friendly. Come in with low expectations and youāre more likely to be pleasantly surprised
Sanchong is one the least desirable neighborhoods in Taipei, but itās OK, and that says a lot about Taipei and Taiwan in general. Taipei is pretty well safe and relatively orderly everywhere, just avoid shady businesses at night. I guess the hotel is very affordable and itās close to both airport MRT and orange line Sanchong Station. I donāt think there is much of interest close to the hotel, but it gives you an idea what a normal city neighborhood, almost anywhere in Taiwan is like.
Well a lot Samchoung is geting better or 士瓳å is gentrification in process. Residents are older (maybe more close OP age) and have more money, homes cost more and nicer new ones, with Metro some more higher class shopping and eats (getting expensive). There are worse districts in Taipei region.
