My Real Concerns

Highly personal but my fear is more of the I’m cheating my wife out of that pleasure because I don’t want a kid.

But I’m not sure I don’t want a kid either.

Maybe if I am to have a child it would have to be accidental as I myself was

Lol

Not sure I’d call it pleasure, exactly, but I do think having kids brings great joy. Anyway, I hope you two work that angle out. I’m sure you’ll be fine either way!

Better make up your mind soon…those sperm aren’t swimming any faster.

Haven’t read all through this thread, but yes, AI is legitimately a concern that it could wipe us out, it’s in the top 5.

Going deeper into this is what will really boggle your noodle. The Fermi paradox is one such example and follow that further and you start thinking about The Great Filter

In many ways, we might have already passed the Great Filter, what are the chances for life to develop on a planet, what are the chances intelligent life (not including cats) develops.

Then the great Filter might be in front of us and explains the Fermi paradox. Intelligent life forms are destined to self destruct through half a dozen means, because we can.

When you consider the only intelligent life form we know of has managed to commence burning through its environment like a drunken sailor within a brief few years of conceiving of the possibility of extraterrestrial life, you can see how that could be closing windows

People have been thinking of extra terrestrial life since the Greeks at least. But agreed on your main point.

That’s interesting. I’ll look around a bit

Obviously not all of them but definitely some of them believed in the possibility .
