So following Chinese New Year when people could take two extra days off and get a full weekend added to long holiday, they’re making the Saturday after CNY a make up day… :wall:

Workers will get 115 days off work in 2024 compared to 116 off in 2023. The sole makeup day will be Feb. 17, the Saturday following the Lunar New Year holiday from Feb. 8-14. This is to compensate for getting Feb. 8 off.

When asked to reinstate the number of Taiwan’s public holidays from 12 to 19 days, Taiwan’s labor ministry said that Taiwan already has 116 days of leave, by counting all the UNPAID weekends, while disregarding that Taiwan has among the least PAID leaves

Regarding the issue of adding national holidays, the Ministry of Labor pointed out that the current Labor Standards Act already guarantees about 116 days of leave for workers every year and ensures that every worker has the right to two days off per week. Whether to add national holidays involves national consistency matters, and the Ministry of Labor respects the decision-making of the Ministry of the Interior and relevant competent authorities.

You already have weekends! How dare you ask for more holidays!

Same why not 9 to 5: “you have one hour for lunch”, sure is unpaid.
