šŸ†” New format for ARC/APRC number is not accepted--testing and reporting thread

ofc it depends on the complexity of the case, my very straightforward, money in is salary (into TW account), no dependents, single (still), no rent.

ARC/APRC should go through the same tax filing system as citizens. In all other countries I’ve been in, they are in the same system as long as you have a work visa. Having two different tax systems is just a way to look the other way for local tax evaders and assume that they don’t have any foreign income.

Local people don’t get asked questions like how many days were you in TW this year. Even if they’re only in Taiwan for a few days, they get the full tax deductions with no withholdings? It’s totally discriminatory on a tax system level.

Today I lined up at tax office and they had to give me the go around since most people’s systems don’t support foreigners - we have to go through a separate tax filing system. Two of my local Taiwan friends say they get tax due via mail and don’t have to file themselves.

So did you come in on your other passport and try to win the tourist vouchers? Did you win?

Unfortunately I came back before May. But I’m already planning short trips to Jeju island. I plan to use both passports to get that $10k NTD visitor incentive on easycard and then cash out the easycard to cash by paying it back to my TW business, pay ~2-3% tax on that (this is all perfectly legal and per their tax rules which allow workarounds like this).

If applicable, do not overlook the oft-neglected ā€œlineal ascendantsā€ option. It’s a very useful way to increase your tax exemption. :slightly_smiling_face:

Well, no offspring yet too haha, will check for sure. But most likely will fole jointly then and the accountant of my missus firm will handle to ā€œoptimiseā€ the fiscal burden

You are the offspring! Remember: lineal ascendants, not just descendants. :upside_down_face:

Oh, I see. Too bad my parents still working then haha

Ahh the joys of being young! My parents are now seniors. Listing them on my tax return has been very beneficial indeed. Shout out to Confucianism!

I spent more than a one hour in Taishin changing the id and now my Richarts stop working.
In megabank I spent 15 minutes but I have to go back because I can’t bind the app and nothing is working.

Oh wait, I know the pain. Had to go to the shop to get it set up. So stupid.

This is a bit of an edge case, but the official zai zhu app doesn’t work with APRCs as far as I can tell. The form has an expiration date required when signing up with an ARC and an APRC doesn’t have one.

You can sign up on their website and it works fine, but if you want to remit to a bank account for a previous winning receipt, you can’t because you need to use the app (you can still go to an ibon machine and do it though).

Have you tried 31/12/2099? I think that’s the unwritten expiry date for APRCs.

Received my updated ARC card number and went to update the card number with First Bank as requested.
I don’t know why I fell for their trap of thinking it would be a quick and easy task.

The process took so long, I had to leave half way and come back the next working day (after the weekend). After each step the staff member had to consult their manager and they both studied the rulebooks like they were trying to resolve some edge-case in a european strategy war game.
