With apologies to my Kiwi friends, I realized when teaching a class on how to express the adjective form of a country that I don’t know the form for New Zealand.
For example, Australia becomes Australian when expressed as an adjective.
What is the form for New Zealand? New Zealandish? Couldn’t find it on the net.
I do know that a person from New Zealand is called a New Zealander.
I feel like an idiot. Brain cramp. Help.
Edit: Bloody tmwc answered my SMS just as I posted this. Now my idiocy is on display for all to see.
He wrote that it is simply “New Zealand.”
You’ve also got:
Taiwanese - New Zealandese;
Singaporean - New Zealandan;
Brazilian - New Zealandian;
Iraqi - New Zealandi; and
Icelandic - New Zealandic.
Mostly, maaate, cuz, bro’ or sis, but more frequently, sheep shagger, although “pretty much Australian . . except for that weird prediliction for sheep”, covers it.
except the “ese” seems to apply only to 4 countries Japan, Taiwan, China, Vietnam . All Asian countries. New Zealanders dont really consider themselves asian i think?
i rather like New Zealandic or New Zealandian myself
The Maori people arrived in New Zealand from a mystical homeland, whose precise location they seem to have forgotten. Personally I’m pretty sure it was in fact Ireland. Look at all the cultural similarities, except that the Irish don’t really drink.
