Oooh. Can’t wait to learn more!
Finally! Switch really needed an update. Looking forward to it
Expensive.
But it runs RDR2 which I’ve been dreaming of playing for years (as a Dad who shares the family TV playing RPGs on it isn’t really feasible so a handheld is the only way to get in any game time).
You could have played it on SteamDeck for years already.
RDR2 is for PC right now.
I’m not a PC gamer.
See above.
Numerous PC handhelds exist right now that do what you want.
I’ll be getting it after it has a price drop and all the games I want are already available second hand.
At least the TW prices aint as bad as some other countries.
PC master race needs to understand that some gamers just want the simplicity of a console. A busy dad who struggles to get personal screentime will probably not get into PC gaming. He probably just wants to fire up the game and play.
I really only play older games on the Pc for this reason.
SteamDeck is just as easy, has more variety and games are cheaper than switch handhelds.
People have the choice to tinker with it to run emulators, but it’s not a must.
We have both SteamDeck and Switch. Switch has never been taken out of the living room and has playtime of less than 5% of SteamDeck.
Switch has only advantage of virtual sports games for fun. But it gets boring after a while.
The whole point of recent handhelds like the Steam Deck is its simplicity. Steam OS was made in particular for the simplicity of a console while having access to the library of games you wanna play and the added benefit of flexibility. The Steam Deck is a grab and go machine. I’m not dumb lol.
People usually get nintendo consoles for the games. Such as donkey kong jungle bonanza beat. Damn that looks good.
Nostalgic as I am for the old school Nintendo games the EULA and ToS controversy is putting off any interest I have at the moment. I don’t really want to buy a console that can be remotely bricked and made unusable.
I don’t get why this is a big deal if you’re just looking at some causal “old school” gaming. I understand there’s general ethical concerns. But unless you plan to pirate all your stuff or you’re big into making mods, they’re not going to randomly target you.
Steam deck runs linux and you can put whatever distro you want on there. Even FreeBSD

Suppose I’ve had me gaming rig for a couple years and it’s no longer under manufacturer warranty. I decide to replace some fans and the CPU with faster and more reliable aftermarket units. If Nintendo - via background software scanning of the hardware - determines I’ve violated their ToS they can unilaterally brick my console. That I have a problem with.
Same with the inevitable march of complete digitization of all games. If I no longer have internet connection for (insert reason here) it means I also no longer have access to the library of games that I have already paid for. So am I “leasing” my games or do I own my particular copy of them to do as I wish with them?
Also can’t buy second hand games at a cheaper price if they are all digital.
And nintendo never drops the price of games. You will have to pay their bullshit 80 bucks or tough luck.
Ok
Everyone convinced me. I think I’m going to get a steam deck. I was going to get a gaming PC but this seems like an easy way to play games when I travel around.
